• This Microcredential explores the relationship between planetary health, sustainability, wellbeing and professional practice.

  Students will examine how organisations and services can respond to climate and environmental challenges while promoting equity, resilience and improved outcomes for people, communities and wider systems.

  This Microcredential is suitable for professionals and postgraduate learners with an interest in sustainability, planetary health, climate change, public health, social care, education, leadership, policy, community development or service improvement.   The Programme

  Course Content

  Foundations of sustainable healthcare: core principles, planetary health frameworks and global policy drivers

  Environmental determinants and health equity: climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss, and their links to health and healthcare

  The interconnections between healthcare systems, environmental change and global health outcomes

  The evidence base underpinning sustainable healthcare practices and policies across local, national and global contexts

  Designing and evaluating low-carbon, equitable models of care

  Assessing and managing the environmental and sustainability risks of healthcare services and policies

  Leadership for systemic transformation, working within multidisciplinary and cross-sector teams to advance planetary health

  Delivery

  Online delivery across 12 weeks. Pattern: Live Online Lectures and Asynchronous Learning Activities.

  Assessment

  Class Test and Presentation. There is no examination component.

  Selection Criteria

  Applicants must normally have a professional qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health, Social Care Services and other relevant professional backgrounds and normally hold a relevant 2.2 Honours degree or above, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University. Applicants who do not hold a 2.2 Honours degree (or equivalent) may be considered on a case-by-case basis where they can demonstrate evidence of successful study at Level 6 in a healthcare-related subject. Decisions will be based on academic judgement and evidence of readiness for study at postgraduate level.
