Chromatographic Skills for Pharmaceutical Analysis

  • Develop practical expertise in modern chromatographic techniques used in pharmaceutical analysis, with a focus on real-world applications.

This Microcredential builds capability in method development, optimisation, and validation, aligned with current industry and regulatory expectations. Through a combination of applied learning and hands-on experience, participants gain the skills needed to generate reliable, high-quality analytical data in complex environments.

    WHO IS THIS MICROCREDENTIAL FOR?

The course is aimed at early-to mid-career scientists working in pharmaceutical analysis who need to strengthen their practical chromatography capability, particularly in method development, optimisation, and data interpretation. It will also suit graduates and final-year students in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related disciplines who are preparing to move into analytical roles in industry. In addition, it is relevant for laboratory analysts and technical staff seeking to upskill in modern chromatographic techniques and improve their effectiveness in regulated environments.

    WHY STUDY THIS MICROCREDENTIAL?

There is sustained demand in the pharmaceutical sector for analysts with practical chromatographic competence, particularly in method development, validation, and troubleshooting, where skills gaps persist despite strong theoretical training. This Microcredential addresses that gap by providing applied, instrument-focused training aligned with industry and regulatory expectations, supporting workforce upskilling and improving analytical capability in real-world settings.

    Outcomes

This micro-credential is designed for professionals seeking specialist expertise in one of the pharmaceutical sector’s most critical analytical techniques. Focused exclusively on chromatographic methods and their application within pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, and quality control, the programme combines fundamental separation science with real-world industry practice.
Mapped directly to postgraduate-level study within Queen’s University Belfast’s MSc Pharmaceutical Analysis programme, the micro-credential covers chromatographic method development, validation, troubleshooting, data interpretation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance considerations relevant to modern pharmaceutical laboratories. Learners gain practical, industry-relevant knowledge that can be applied immediately in regulated environments, while also benefiting from a clear pathway to further postgraduate study.

Developed and delivered by experts in pharmaceutical analysis, the programme provides a focused, academically rigorous, and professionally relevant learning experience for scientists, analysts, and technical professionals looking to enhance their analytical capability and career progression within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.

    Delivery

Blended delivery across 12 weeks, with online teaching elements and the opportunity to attend in-person practicals on campus at the end of the semester (normally a single day in week 11 or 12). Pattern: Lectures: 2h per week Practicals: 8h (end of semester).

In addition to taught sessions, you will complete independent learning activities and self-directed study to support your progress and achievement, enabling you to develop knowledge and skills at your own pace.

Subject to venue capacity. This Microcredential cannot be open to international students.
