  • This Microcredential introduces accounting concepts and techniques and is designed to enable business professionals to be financially literate and confident in participating in financial decision-making and evaluating business performance.

    This Microcredential introduces key concepts and techniques that managers need to understand to make better business decisions. It gives students a practical and applied understanding of financial statements, analysis, costing and budgeting and performance management. It explores how Accounting is evolving with technology and increased focus on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) reporting. Drawing on global perspectives, students will be encouraged to challenge and critique financial information and conventional accounting approaches.

    Course Content

    The evolving role and function of accounting in organisations, including how technology and ESG reporting are changing roles and functions
    Form and content of the main financial statements – statements of profit or loss, financial position, and cash flow – and key financial concepts
    Interpretation and analysis of financial statements
    Costing and budgeting for managerial decision-making
    Performance measurement, including non-financial performance and balanced scorecards

    Delivery

    In-person delivery across 6 weeks (5hrs per week), taught on a Monday 2pm-8pm. Pattern: 5hrs per week.
