Associate Software Development Engineer

  • How You’ll Support Our Mission

    Our Fire team in Belfast own 3 mission critical applications used to help US firefighters go about their daily job of protecting their communities and saving lives.

    We are searching for an Associate Software Development Engineer to help us build out new product features. Our engineering teams leverage modern, cloud-based serverless architectural patterns as well as the latest CI/CD DevOps tooling and processes.

    You will have the chance to join a growing and passionate team, working on critical products, whilst being supported with training opportunities and being mentored by an experienced and friendly team of Engineers.

    The Belfast Fire team have full autonomy over all applications, from implementation right through to delivery into production. You will be part of the Product Engineering team, reporting to the Development Manager.

    What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day

    You can expect to work across the whole stack, from front-end code, through back-end services, serverless, SQL, to name but a few. We value competency, tenacity and problem-solving, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and technologies, or even introduce your own best practices into your new team.  

    Our current stack:  C#, .NET Core, Angular, Azure PAAS / Serverless; SQL Server.  Other applications that we use are NUnit, Cypress, Sonar. This is what you can expect to work with, but we are always open to using other technologies where they add value!

    Our development engineers lead by championing a culture of personal ownership and customer-focused execution.  We love those who pride themselves in how they contribute through excellent solutions and end-user experiences, as much as clean and clear code.

    We are an Agile development shop and interact regularly with project stakeholders, including demos from each sprint.  To support this methodology, we use regular retrospectives and objective measurement to drive continuous improvement and empower our developers to make informed technology and implementation decisions. As part of the development process, you will be involved in design sessions, and you’ll have the opportunity to learn and teach through peer review of code and of completed solutions.

     

    Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role: 

    • 1+ years’ post graduation experience in software engineering
    • Your experience should include;
      • application development in a mainstream language
      • usage of unit testing and mocking frameworks
    • You should also;
      • have knowledge of OO concepts
      • have knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts

     

    Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following:

    • Exposure to Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment practices
    • Experience of serverless architectures
    • Exposure to Cloud Platforms (Azure / AWS / GCP)
    • Front end experience
