Huawei Ireland has opened its new state-of-the-art Dublin office and announced the creation of 100 jobs over the next three years as the company continues to grow in Ireland.
Recruitment is underway for the first phase of the jobs and 30 of these positions are expected to be filled within the next year.
Huawei currently employs 180 staff across its Dublin, Cork and Athlone facilities.
The Chinese tech firm provides equipment for 5G, wireless solutions and sells consumer electronics including smartphones. Its chairman, Mr Guo Ping said that when Huawei first opened its office in Dublin in 2004 they had only four employees.
He continued: “The business in Ireland has significantly grown and as we have grown so too has Ireland. Through challenging times, Ireland showed resilience and now is one of the most successful economies in Europe. Huawei admires the resiliency and determination of the Irish people because these values are at the core of our business too.”
Located in Mespil Court since 2016, the revamped Huawei Dublin office will occupy a space of 18,000 sq. ft. and operations at the headquarters will include communications, administration, marketing, its Irish consumer business and related sales functions.
Minister Pat Breen TD said that Huawei’s expansion is “a great endorsement of Ireland’s ability to provide an enterprise-friendly environment that allows companies such as Huawei to grow and prosper. I wish them every success in their wonderful, state-of-the art offices here in Dublin.”
The tech giant has faced its fair share of controversy as of late; the US has banned companies from supplying it with technology in fear that the Chinese government will use such equipment as a threat against American national security.
However Germany recently announced that it will not exclude Huawei from supplying equipment for its 5G networks, whilst the UK remains undecided.
