I have recently graduated from Queens University Belfast in Software Engineering this summer. I love hackathons, conferences and all things tech! Enjoy designing and creating new projects with different technologies and getting involved in as much as I can. This year I have also became a Belfast City Lead for Women Who Code.

What does your typical day look like?

My days are never typical, which is great! I’m working with bleeding edge machine learning technologies, developing innovative solutions for complex business needs. I’m currently part of Kainos’ artificial intelligence team, so my job really involves collaborating with the wider Kainos team to inform them of what AI can do for their projects.

I am working on investigating AWS SageMaker for building, training and deploying ML models. I recently went to New York to deliver a workshop at the Women Who Code Connect conference for getting started with SageMaker, which was a dream come true!

What inspired you to join this company in particular?

In first year of university I took part in Kainos AppCamp. Taking part in AppCamp changed my career and has led to so many more opportunities for me, which ultimately ended up in me working for Kainos during my placement year and has now translated into a graduate job. I’d really recommend this type of opportunity to others who are thinking about getting into the industry.

Did you always want to work in this industry (tech)?

Yes ! Growing up I have always been a keen problem solver – making, breaking and creating things was my entertainment! So it was a natural fit!

What’s your favourite part about your work?

Having the opportunity to slove real problems that affect peoples lives, and getting the chance to use state of the art technology such as AWS SageMaker is what really keeps my interest!

What would you say to other people considering a job in this industry (tech)?

For anyone hoping to break into the industry, I would recommend taking advantage of the fantastic community-driven events that run frequently, close to you. Ensure to take the opportunities that come your way, as you never know where they could lead or take you in the future!

How do you see this technology impacting on our lives?

Artificial Intelligence has become part of everyday life for many people, whether they are using Siri to send a text or using a home device like Alexa to turn on the lights. AI is shaping all industrys around us from healthcare and retail to banking.

Who inspired you to work in this field?

My passion for problem solving and love for technology has inspired me to pursure a career in this industry.

What do you consider to be the most important tech innovation or development in recent years?

How accessable powerful computing resources have became due to cloud services such as AWS and Azure.

What tech gadget could you not live without?

I couldn’t live without my Macbook!
