Meet David Linden, a Professional Services Associate at DailyPay whose journey into tech was anything but conventional. Having originally set his sights on a career in sports journalism and media, David made a bold pivot into the tech industry and hasn't looked back since. We caught up with him to find out what drives him, what he's working on, and why he thinks it's never too late to change direction.
What does your typical day look like?
My priority at the beginning of the day is coffee, so stopping at a café on the way to the office is essential. Once I'm settled in, I open my Google Calendar, JIRA, and Salesforce to see what projects I need to tackle and which meetings are on the agenda. This role covers a wide range of tasks — from client integration setups and data audits to reimplementation QA and data analytics. With such a variety of responsibilities, no two days really feel the same. Each client has their own nuances and unique challenges, so I'm constantly problem-solving and learning something new each day
What are you currently working on?
Right now, I'm focused on a few key areas. A lot of my bandwidth is going toward client integrations and data audits. However, I'm also supporting our team's new workload of onboarding smaller-sized clients to DailyPay. This involves streamlining our implementation and integration processes to handle a higher volume of smaller sized clients efficiently while maintaining the same quality standards.

What inspired you to join this company in particular?
What stood out to me the most with DailyPay was the impact they were having on employees, helping them access their earned pay when they need it. The concept of On-Demand Pay addresses a real financial stress point for so many employees, and I loved the idea of being part of a team making a difference in the financial journeys of hard working employees.
Beyond the mission, I also saw a great opportunity to develop my skills in the tech space. I get to work on meaningful projects that directly impact clients while building technical expertise in integrations, data analytics, and implementation processes. It's been rewarding to grow in an environment where the work is mission-driven.
Did you always want to work in the tech industry?
Not at all! In fact, my knowledge and interest in tech only really developed about a year before I applied to DailyPay. My original goal in university was to pursue Sport & Media — I was considering either sports journalism or the media and production side of sporting events. While I still have a passion for sports and media production outside of work, I realized as I approached graduation that it wasn't the professional path I wanted to pursue long-term. A friend referred me to DailyPay for a Customer Support role, and I saw it as an opportunity to explore something completely different. From there, I've been able to work my way up to Professional Services, and I've really enjoyed developing my technical skills and taking on more complex projects along the way.
What’s your favourite part about your work?
Without a doubt it’s the team. Professional Services has such a collaborative and supportive environment. Everyone's willing to jump in and help solve problems, share knowledge, or talk through challenges. It makes the complex work we do feel a lot more manageable, and honestly, it just makes coming to work more enjoyable.
What would you say to other people considering a job in the tech industry?
If you're genuinely interested, absolutely go for it! Don't let a lack of experience or technical knowledge hold you back. The tech industry is incredibly rewarding and offers plenty of opportunities to learn and develop your skills as you go. I'm proof of that! The key is being open to problem-solving and not being afraid to ask questions. Before you know it, you'll find yourself navigating complex systems and projects with confidence!
How do you see this technology impacting our lives?
DailyPay's technology is making a real impact on millions of employees by empowering them with more choice and control over their earned pay. I think we're seeing technology bridge gaps in traditional systems that have existed for years. Fintechs are making financial tools that used to be out of reach for many people more accessible, and DailyPay is part of that shift.

Who inspired you to work in this field?
I'd say my father has been a big influence. He's always encouraged me to work hard and not be afraid to explore new opportunities, even if they're outside my comfort zone. That mindset really gave me the confidence to pivot into tech and keep pushing myself to learn and grow in this field.
What do you consider to be the most important tech innovation or development in recent years?
I have to say artificial intelligence. Just how it's becoming integrated into everyday tools and workflows. What makes it so significant isn't just the capability of the technology itself, but how accessible it's become. Even in my own work, I'm already seeing how AI tools can streamline processes and free up time for more strategic thinking. I think we're still in the early stages of understanding its full impact.
What tech gadget could you not live without?
I know it is a typical answer, but 100% my phone. I'd be completely lost without it! It's my alarm clock, my camera, my entertainment center, and basically my entire life organizer all in one. I don't even want to think about what I'd do if I left it at home for a day.
