Have you always had an interest in technology, and was there a specific person or particular event that led you into your current role
From a young age, I’ve always had a natural affinity for technology, it was something I excelled at and felt drawn to instinctively. Throughout my journey, my mum has always been my greatest supporter. When I was struggling to decide whether to change careers. She encouraged me to believe in myself and because of her, I had the courage to return to education and pursue a career in tech.
What would you consider to be the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of your job?
The challenge! There’s nothing more gratifying than finally cracking a coding problem that’s been causing issues—it’s like a lightbulb moment, which is incredibly rewarding.I also enjoy the constant learning that comes with the job; technology evolves so quickly, and staying up to date keeps things exciting.

In terms of career development, how important is it to build a professional network and attend industry events?
Building a professional network and attending industry events are game changers when it comes to career development. Not only do they open the door to exciting prospects, such as mentorship and job opportunities but they also keep you inspired and in the loop with the latest trends and innovations.
How much impact can a mentor have on your personal development?
A mentor helps to guide you through your professional career and offers insight into areas for development you may not have recognised yourself. They boost your confidence, help you realise your goals, and provide support during challenges. A good mentor not only shares knowledge and experience but also encourages growth, helping you reach your full potential both personally and professionally.
What guidance would you offer to any young person on why they should consider a career in technology?
I’d tell any young person that a career in technology is full of opportunity. It’s a field that constantly evolves, offering endless chances to learn, grow, and make a real impact. It can be challengingbut that’s what makes it so rewarding. If you enjoy problem-solving and want to be part of shaping the future, tech is a great place to be.
What advice would you give to women considering a career change or return to work but are daunted by the prospect of working in what can be perceived as a male-dominated industry?
My advice would be; don’t let the perception of a male-dominated industry hold you back. Technology needs diverse voices and perspectivesand there’s a place for everyoneregardless of gender. It’s a daunting feelingwhen making a career change (or returning to work), I certainly felt that way, but the tech industry is full of opportunities, supportive communities, and resources designed to help you succeed. Start small, build your confidence, and remember that your unique experiences and skills are valuable. You belong in tech just as much as anyone else.
