Tech Trailblazers

Tech Trailblazer: Aline Duarte, Business Development Representative, Integrity360

  • Aline Duarte's journey into tech wasn't planned but proved to be perfectly aligned with her passion for helping others and making a real impact.

Now working as a Business Development Representative at Integrity360, she combines her love of solving challenges with building client relationships, helping businesses feel secure and confident in their digital world. Her message is encouraging: tech needs diverse perspectives, and there's a place for everyone.

She recently spoke with Sync NI about her unexpected path into cybersecurity, the power of mentorship, and why the tech industry offers exciting opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

Have you always had an interest in technology and was there a specific person or a particular event that led you into your current role?

Honestly, I wasn’t always a tech enthusiast! My journey into technology was a bit unexpected. I started out curious about how things work and loved solving problems, but it wasn’t until I got my first taste of the cybersecurity world that I was truly hooked. What really sealed the deal for me was meeting some incredible mentors early on-people who showed me how exciting and impactful this field could be. Their encouragement and seeing the real difference tech makes in people’s lives inspired me to dive in headfirst.

What would you consider to be the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of your job?

For me, it’s all about the people and the impact. I love helping clients feel secure and confident about their digital world. Every day brings a new challenge, and I get to work with a fantastic team at Integrity360 who are just as passionate as I am. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a client breathe a sigh of relief after we’ve helped them solve a tricky security issue. Plus, I get to keep learning and growing, which keeps things fresh and exciting!

In terms of career development, how important is it to build a professional network and attend industry events?

It’sabsolutely huge! Building a network and getting out to events has opened so many doors for me-whether it’s learning about the latest trends, meeting potential clients, or just swapping stories with others in the industry. You never know who you’ll meet or what opportunities might pop up. Plus, it’sa great way to stay motivated and inspired by seeing what others are achieving in the tech world.

How much impact can a mentor have on your personal development?

A mentor can make all the difference! I’ve been lucky to have mentors who’ve given me honest advice, shared their own experiences, and encouraged me to aim higher. They’ve helped me see my strengths (even when I doubted myself!) and guided me through tough decisions. Having someone in your corner who believes in you and challenges you to grow is honestly priceless.

What guidance would you offer to any young person on why they should consider a career in technology?

Tech is such an exciting place to build a career-there’s always something new happening, and you get to be part of shaping the future. It’s not just about coding or engineering; there are so many paths you can take. If you love solving problems, working with people, or even just want a job that keeps you on your toes, tech is the place to be. Plus, it’s a field where your ideas and creativity can really make a difference!

What advice would you give to women considering a career change or return to work but are daunted at the prospect of working in what can be perceived as a male dominated industry?

First, you absolutely belong here! It can feel intimidating at first, but the tech world is changing, and there’s so much room for women to shine. Don’t let stereotypes hold you back-your unique perspective is a huge asset. Lean on your support network, seek out other women in the industry, and remember, everyone started somewhere. Be confident in your abilities, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to take up space. We need more women in tech, and you could be the role model someone else is looking for!

For those who may not come from a STEM background, what other career opportunities exist within the tech sector beyond software engineering?

So many! Tech isn’t just for coders. There are roles in sales, marketing, project management, customer success, HR, design, and more. My own background isn’t strictly technical, but I found my niche in business development and cybersecurity sales. If you’re good with people, love organizing, or have a creative streak, there’sdefinitely a place for you in tech. The industry needs all kinds of skills to keep moving forward!
