Tech Trailblazer: Alana Hodman, Business Development Representative,  Integrity 360

  • Alana Hodman is a Business Development Representative at Integrity360 and a graduate of Maynooth University with a BBA in International Business and Marketing. Her career in tech was sparked by a passion for fast-paced, people-focused work and the dynamic nature of the cybersecurity sector.

Alana shares with Sync NI how she found her place in the tech industry, the importance of mentorship and networking, and why tech is full of opportunities for those without a technical background.

Have you always had an interest in technology and was there a specific person or event that led you into your current role?

I didn’t always know I’d end up in tech, I just knew I wanted a career that would keep me engaged and on my toes. During university, I explored different aspectsof business. It was clear early on that the tech industry was dynamic, fast-moving, and full of potential. I was drawn to the energy of it.

What would you consider the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of your job?

Every day is different. I get to speak with some massive businesses and help them protect what matters most. Cybersecurity may sound technical, but it'sactually people-focused and incredibly impactful.

How important is it to build a professional network and attend industry events?

It’s key. Not just for growth, but for staying inspired. Being around others in the industry gives you fresh perspective and motivation.

How much impact can a mentor have on your development?

Huge. Mentors help you find direction and confidence, especially early in your career. Being the youngest woman in my company, I am lucky to have such great female mentors to look up to.

What guidance would you offer to a young person considering a career in tech?

You don’t need to have a coding background (I definitely don’t). Be curious, ask questions, and know that this industry values new perspectives.

Advice for women considering a career change or return to tech?

Don’t let the “male-dominated” label stop you. Things are changing, and I have notfelt any stigma around being a female in my industry. This is an old label that we need to ignore if it is ever going to go away.

What other opportunities exist in tech beyond software engineering?

There is so much. Sales, marketing, project management, customer success, operations — the list goes on. If you’re passionate, there’s a place for you in tech.
