Support Tooling Engineer

• Hi, I’m Marty Ewings, Support Operations Manager at Puppet,

  I’m looking for an Support Tooling Engineer to join our team to help build and maintain the toolset our Customer Support Engineers use to solve our customer’s problems. This role involves both the development and maintenance of our existing toolset, and the research and creation of further tooling and process to help fulfill the requirements of the Customer Support team and our customers. 

  Meaningful work you’ll contribute 

  • Contribute to Support Tooling projects. 
  • Create Puppet modules and tooling for the Support team and our customers, coding in Ruby, Puppet, Bash and Powershell
  • Engage with our Product team on Support requirements and needs
  • Engage with the open-source community.

   Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet 

  • Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Scripting (programming in Ruby, Python, Perl, Bash) experience, Ruby Preferred
  • Familiar with source control systems such as Git.
  • Knack for troubleshooting and debugging complex technical issues at all levels of an application stack.
  • Ability to communicate technical problems and issues succinctly and clearly.
  • Experience in collaborating across a global team.

  Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience):

  • Cloud and Container experience e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge and experience with Puppet/Chef/Ansible or other infrastructure automation solutions.
  • Knowledge of database, application, and web server systems support (e.g. MySQL, Postgres, Nginx, Apache).
  • Experience and knowledge of administering Linux-based systems and bash scripting.
  • Experience using Continuous Integration / Delivery systems and methods.
  • Knowledge and experience of virtualization and container-based systems.
  • Performance monitoring
