Tech Analyst (Graduate) - TSE - EY Parthenon

  • The opportunity

You will be joining the Software Strategy Group capability within the Transactions Services and Execution (TSE) group of EY-Parthenon. As part of the TSE Software Strategy Group technical capability, you will be an integral part of our service offering and capability across the UK and Europe.

The TSE team is a dedicated group of over 200 professionals. Each draws on their financial, operational and technical skills to support both private equity and corporate clients, spanning a wide range of industries.

SSG provides investment and acquisition guidance (including product and technology diligence), strategy/value creation and transaction advisory services to companies and investors in the software economy. SSG teams have completed hundreds of successful projects and provide a unique capability to help companies make critical decisions and complete successful transactions.

Analysts work with our teams on a variety of client issues, such as:

    Diligence

    • Product and technology diligence: SSG provides market-leading product and technology diligence of companies in the Software Economy, an “inside-out” assessment of product capabilities, product roadmap, software architecture, technical debt, and the organisation and processes associated with a software organisation.
    • Integrated diligence: when EY teams combine product and technology diligence with leading commercial due diligence “outside-in” capabilities, we provide clients with a cohesive view of their target investment from both a market and an operational perspective, providing insights that each diligence work stream may not uncover independently. We are a leader and innovator in this integrated offering and bring extensive capabilities to the marketplace.

    Strategy

    • Software development effectiveness: SSG teams assess a company’s software development organisation for capacity, talent and process, and actionable recommendations to improve productivity, timeliness, predictability, quality, and overall alignment with the corporate strategy.
    • Technology strategy and roadmap: by analysing clients’ technology roadmaps and potential alternatives, as well as assessing cost, risk, and alignment with strategic objectives, we help companies identify and build a suitable technology strategy and architecture roadmap.
    • Product strategy and roadmap: SSG teams analyse a company’s product roadmap and provide recommendations for improvement in product strategy and roadmap based on market and competitive research, team capabilities, development cost and risk, and technology underpinnings.

You have the ability to develop your career through a broad scope of engagements, mentoring and formal learning. That is how we develop outstanding leaders who team to deliver on our promises to all our stakeholders and, in so doing, play a critical role in building a better working world for our people, for our clients and for our communities.

Training is given in key business concepts and analytical methods immediately upon joining the firm and throughout your SSG career. We make every effort to support Analysts (Associates) progression to the Executive (Senior Associate) role.

    Your key responsibilities

In your role as an Analyst (Associate) you will:

    • Understand and contribute to the delivery of pre deal, post deal and separation engagements for software assets primarily for private equity clients across the UK and Europe
    • Learn consulting skills such as identifying information sources, assembling data, performing analyses, structuring arguments, and developing thoughtful presentations
    • Assess the client's state of readiness with respect to software product strategy and roadmaps, technical architecture, people and process, and hosting infrastructure, while identifying high-risk areas, unidentified issues, and areas for overall improvement
    • Assist in aspects of business origination, including pitches and presentations, and working in project teams with other colleagues from Strategy and Transactions (SAT), such as commercial, operational, tax, HR, and financial due diligence
    • Take part in social activities, charity days, and projects with other graduates and contribute to people initiatives such as recruitment and training

    • Some software development experience or an interest in software/technology
    • Effective organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines

    Ideally, you’ll also have

    • Ability to make detailed assessments, either in an academic, professional or personal setting, that may include industries, products, markets, competitors or customers to identify risks and opportunities
