Product Owner (Cyber Security)

  • The Team

At Aflac NI we are building a multidisciplinary Cyber Security Team to support our Global Security Program, protecting our customers in the US and Japan. At Aflac, we are all about customer care and the customer experience and we’re looking for a talented, dynamic, inquisitive, and skilled Product Owner to help us grow our expertise in policy holder authentication as part of Aflac’s Client Experience. You will drive change spearheading Aflac’s journey from on-premise to the Cloud.

We are building a modern authentication platform that will enable centralized, user-centric, secure, and robust authentication for Aflac’s Policyholders and Producers. The solution is based on Ping Identity an industry leading IAM solution used by major Financial Institutions and Retailers along with a new web platform creating a unified login site that will allow Aflac to federate as needed to multiple internal applications.

Aflac NI embraces diversity. Our team is one of Belfast's most diverse and represents talented people with a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better and more enjoyable our work will be.

    The Role

You will be responsible for building solutions that re-imagine the customer experience at Aflac. The Policy Holder & Channel Authentication Product Owner will be integral to our Consumer Identity & Access Management Team and will be responsible for the definition of products and services that enable Aflac to securely enrol, service, and support policy holders via a multichannel framework while reducing cybercrime risk and cost to the enterprise. Our goal is to deliver class-leading authentication with flexible and agile integration into partner applications while ensuring that we focus on customer experience.

Basically, you’re building the front door for Policyholders at Aflac, a Fortune 500 company. Pretty cool!! The intention is for our teams to continually adapt and reinvent their skills and capabilities over time as technologies change and evolve. We provide the right challenges and opportunities to enable your success, you to bring your enthusiasm, the ability to learn quickly, and to take minimum-viable-product technology to produce industrialised solutions for the enterprise.

Experience with web and mobile platform development is not required, but would be an advantage, but you do need to have proven experience of successfully working in Agile teams and getting the best from a capable group of developers & testers. Experience migrating workloads from on prem to AWS would be great too.

    What you’ll be doing

    • Playing a key role within the Northern Ireland based Agile/Scrum Team, displaying excellent leadership qualities
    • Understanding and defending the vision of the product and partnering with US-based colleagues to translate the vision between business need and technical deliverables
    • Use your insights, industry knowledge and experience to create, maintain and evangelise the roadmap for your area
    • Define clear success metrics for your initiatives and measure their outcomes
    • Taking customer needs and turning them into a fully scoped product backlog
    • Breaking down backlog items into clearly articulated epics and user stories
    • Ensuring good relationships between the team, the Scrum Master, and other business stakeholders
    • Partnering to conduct successful backlog grooming and planning sessions
    • Collaborating daily with agile team members and ensuring that they always have a clear understanding of the requirements and priorities
    • Interfacing with other agile teams and the rest of the organisation to manage dependencies and coach other agile teams, program level and portfolio level teams as needed
    • Evolve and build a high performing product culture, as we rapidly scale and grow, contributing directly to our product management practices.

    What you should have

Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we are after.

    • 6 years commercial experience, including 3+ years as Product Owner in an Agile team
    • An ability to empathise deeply with customer problems, so you always feel a strong sense of urgency to solve them and motivate others to solve them with you.
    • You have strong communication skills and are comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels
    • Ability to clearly communicate a vision and translate effectively between business and technical teams, with experience capturing user stories and acceptance criteria
    • Understand the big picture but can drill down into the detail when required
    • A self-starter who is passionate and proactive about creating clarity for the development team
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Computing, Marketing, Design, or STEM subject. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered
