Lead Database Developer (hybrid or remote)

    Your role in the team

     

     

    This is a Database Development Tech Lead role within the Data & Intelligent Systems (D&IS) area. It requires project and automation background with good leadership and communication skills.  An understanding of multiple DBMS is preferred. 

     

    The DBA Tech Lead role leads medium to large projects, provides support in the day to day operational management of Database Technologies and aids in software maintenance lifecycle management. They analyze, consult and recommend different options for database performance tuning, database configuration implementation, creates and maintains scripts and test plan execution. They facilitate and drive Enterprise incident, change and problem management activities

     

    The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a high degree of competence in:

    • Perform as a lead in a collaborative environment

     

     

    • Develop and implement the technical strategy for emerging database technologies with a concentration in the NoSQL on-prem and cloud solutions.
    • Lead the evaluation and adoption of new capabilities in data storage technology.
    • Coordinate, educate and advise on database strategy, data enablement and best practices.
    • Lead complex project efforts to determine technical scope and develop execution plans in partnership with other organizations including security and infrastructure.
    • Lead incident, security and performance reviews.
    • Perform ongoing performance analysis, tuning and optimization.
    • Automate redundant / recurring database tasks.
    • Provide mentoring to other database administrators and perform as subject matter expert.
    • Support initiatives in Agile frameworks across multiple business units.

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
    • Have a minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a data professional
    • 5+ years in database management, testing, scripting and / or configuration
    • High degree of knowledge across multiple data store platforms
    • Proficiency with Cloud providers (particularly AWS) and open source software

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Experience with the following NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Redis, etc.
    • Experience with the following technologies: GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation, python, kafka, spark, kubernetes, Docker.
    • Experience or certification with AWS solutions leveraging database platforms.
    • Experience with Agile, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and continuous delivery environments
    • Experience with 20+ TB databases
    • Experience leading adoption of new technologies
    • Experience with security standards and procedures like encryption, redaction and tokenization
    • Master’s degree in a technology related discipline
    • Experience with the P&C insurance industry.
    • Public speaking experience
