AI Engineer Intern

  • Our placement interns are our future engineers and are treated as valued members of the team from day one.     About the Role

    Rapid7 is seeking curious, resourceful, and motivated software engineering placement interns with an interest in AI and machine learning (ML) to join our growing AI Centre of Excellence in Belfast for their placement year. As a AI engineering intern, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology to develop solutions to complex problems. 

    In this role, you will:

    • Have the opportunity to learn how to deploy and scale AI/ML solutions in production

    • Gain cloud experience handling AI/ML services in AWS with tools like Sagemaker

    • Design APIs for AI/ML models, including but not limited to Large Language Models (LLMs)

    • Be a first-class stakeholder in all parts of the development process

    • Work towards developing a deep understanding of our products in order to best support our customers

    • Collaborate and engage with teams like Product Engineering, 

    • UX and Product Management to understand customer needs

     

    The skills and qualities you’ll bring include:

     

    • Knowledge of AI/ML technologies either academically, personally or via work experience. Experience with software development;  Python, Git

    • Understanding of SDLC including code review, testing, and planning processes

    • Ability to write code, and solve basic problems 

    • Ability to articulate messages in an understandable manner, demonstrates active listening skills, shows curiosity and asks questions 

    • Proven track record of collaborating effectively with teammates and partners across an organisation

    • Able to take direction and manage prioritisation of work, and have a dynamic sense of ownership and responsibility for the quality of the software you create


    * Qualified candidates should be currently studying Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, displaying a strong academic record & eligible for a 12-month placement opportunity between Jun 2026 - May 2027. You must be resident of Northern Ireland, and have the legal right to work in the UK.
