Systems Engineer

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, highly organized person to join a team of system engineers.  The candidate should have an excellent mixture of technology experience including security best practices, disaster preparedness, linux, nginx, apache2, MySQL, LVM, ipv4, Microsoft Azure, etc.  In addition, the ideal candidate is one who truly loves their work, is passionate about putting forth a quality product, has excellent communication skills and excels as part of a team.  

    Reporting to the Site Reliability Engineering Manager, you will be part of our Global SRE team. 

     

    What You’ll Be Doing – the day-to-day

    • Providing timely, professional and detail-oriented service to our internal customers
    • Constantly looking for ways to automate, improve and proactively head off potential problems
    • Working with cross-platform teams to solve challenges outside of your immediate area of expertise 
    • Seeing the bigger picture and thinking creatively to solve complex challenges 
    • Building the next generation infrastructure for a global innovator in health care software.
    • Occasional out of hours work may be required

     

    Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role:

    • Solid distribution-independent Linux experience is a must.  Second-nature understanding of “how it works” without the use of included scripts
    • Security minded engineer who can build and manage an environment that is secure by default, while keeping it simple enough for your internal customers to use efficiently
    • Solid understanding networking (OSI model, ipv4, switching, bridging, routing, etc.)
    • Experience of Linux, Nginx, apache2, MySQL, LVM, ipv4, Microsoft Azure and Hadoop,
    • Communicate very technical ideas in layman’s terms
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both direct and documentation

     

    Who You Are – it's desirable if you have any of the following:

    • In-depth MySQL experience
    • Mongo DB experience
    • IPsec
    • Monitoring via SNMP, New Relic, custom scripts, etc. 
    • Automation and experience with IAC
