Engineering Manager

• Hi, I’m Sinead Heverin, Director of Engineering, at Puppet, 

  I’m looking for an Engineering Manager to be a key part of Puppet delivering new capabilities for our flagship products. If you’re eager to lead an established team of talented and engaged engineers working on hard problems that directly change the shape of software used on millions of systems every day, then this is the job for you! You’ll guide a diverse set of engineers collaborating across multiple teams - working on a multitude of projects that form the core value of Puppet Enterprise to help us meet the ever-changing needs of our expanding customer base.  

  You’ll coordinate with a variety of teams and groups within Puppet—such as Product Management, User Experience, and Technical Documentation to help ensure that the engineering team can ship new features quickly and with confidence. As an Engineering Manager, you are passionate about building high-performing and engaged development teams. You will strive for continuous improvement, provide clear vision and be a supportive and empathetic leader. 

  Meaningful work you’ll contribute: 

  • You’ll coordinate with a variety of teams and groups within Puppet such as Product Management, User Experience, and Technical Publications to help ensure that the engineering team can ship features quickly and with confidence. 
  • Help set a vision for where we want to take our products and chart a course for how best to execute on that vision. Our products form the backbone upon which our customers build their infrastructure and deploy their critical applications, and you’ll help make sure they continue to delight users in all the ways typical enterprise software doesn’t!
  • Guide, nurture, and develop a team of highly talented and engaged engineers who will lead Puppet into its next phase of growth.
  • You’ll be part of a peer group that values being supportive, learning and sharing.

  You are: 

  • A hands on manager with a knack for identifying the right solutions that best address customers’ needs while weighing technical trade-offs. You are eager to impact the business. 
  • A leader who values engagement over assignment and knows the importance of team retrospectives.
  • Able to proactively sense looming process or personnel problems early enough so we can react appropriately.
  • Not afraid to make tough decisions, and are able to effectively prioritize the most important projects that will return the greatest impact for our customers.
  • The customer’s champion. We serve our customers by managing their expectations and delivering what we promise.

  Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet:

  • You’ve successfully led a sizeable team (5-10+) of software engineers 
  • You have a history of building high performing teams working on multiple projects across different technology stacks. 
  • You’re an effective leader and you understand how to make an existing team work better as a group—keeping the team effective and functional as we add new people of varying backgrounds and experience.
  • You have familiarity with development methodologies and tooling.
  • Track record of shipping high-quality software on time using agile principles.
  • You have expertise applying different processes to best enable your teams to achieve success.
  • You’re able to successfully navigate change and coach employees through transition and help support them in their career development.
