Principal User Experience Researcher

  • Principal UX Researcher – Unified Platform and Strategic Insights

    As a Principal UX Researcher at Rapid7, you will help define how we understand customers and use evidence to guide the evolution of a unified, intelligent security platform. This is a highly strategic, hands-on individual contributor role with direct influence on platform navigation, cross-product workflows, AI-assisted experiences, and long-term product direction.

    The Product Experience and Unified Platform team defines how Rapid7’s products come together as a cohesive platform, ensuring security practitioners can move fluidly across workflows without losing context. The team partners closely with product, design, engineering, and leadership to drive platform decisions that balance customer needs, technical realities, and business priorities.

    About the Role

    As a Principal UX Researcher – Unified Platform and Strategic Insights, your primary responsibility will be to drive platform-level research that shapes strategy, informs system-level decisions, and advances an evidence-driven product culture. Specifically, your focus will be to:

    Define and evolve the unified platform research strategy across products, personas, and workflows

    Lead complex, mixed-method research that informs navigation, workflow unification, and AI-assisted experiences

    Translate qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear, compelling insights that influence roadmaps, prioritisation, and investment decisions

    Build research frameworks, playbooks, and enablement practices that scale research effectiveness and maturity across the organisation

    The skills and qualities you’ll bring include:

    Strategic research leadership with systems-level thinking

    Deep expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods

    Strong synthesis and insight storytelling that influences senior stakeholders and executives

    Ability to drive clarity and alignment in ambiguous, complex problem spaces

    Experience leading research across enterprise, multi-product, or platform environments

    Proven ability to influence product strategy beyond feature-level decision making

    Strong partnership with Staff and Principal Designers, Senior Product Managers, and Engineering Leaders

    Ability to plan and maintain research roadmaps aligned to company and product goals

    Experience embedding research insights into modular workflows, navigation structures, and AI-supported interactions

    Ability to connect insights from research, analytics, feedback, and market signals into coherent strategic narratives

    Experience mentoring researchers, designers, product managers, and cross-functional partners

    Ability to build and scale research frameworks, playbooks, and repeatable processes

    Familiarity with measurement frameworks such as sentiment, task success, and behavioural analytics

    Comfort working in low-maturity research environments and helping establish foundations

    Experience working in technically complex domains, with cybersecurity experience as a plus
