Senior Software Engineer

  • Apex Fintech Solutions (AFS) powers innovation and the future of digital wealth management by processing millions of transactions daily, to simplify, automate, and facilitate access to financial markets for all. Our robust suite of fintech solutions enables us to support clients such as Stash, Betterment, SoFi, and WeBull, and more than 20 million of our clients' customers.

Collectively, AFS creates an environment in which companies with the biggest ideas in fintech are empowered to change the world. We are based in Dallas, TX and also have offices in Austin, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, and Belfast.

If you are seeking a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment where you'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact, and you have the guts to change everything, this is the place for you.

AFS has received a number of prestigious industry awards, including:

    • 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018 Best Wealth Management Company - presented by Fintech Breakthrough Awards
    • 2021 Most Innovative Companies - presented by Fast Company
    • 2021 Best API & Best Trading Technology - presented by Global Fintech Awards

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll have a big impact across Apex Fintech Solutions. You’ll work in our Accounts team, building out new solutions for our accounts platform. This role will partner with our US based product team to impact the product strategy and our Belfast team to deliver customer features in a reliable, scalable, and secure product.

This is a role for someone who flourishes in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Though our current project is written in Java, we routinely encounter and work in different languages, frameworks, and systems. We value engineers who are proficient in multiple languages because we know they can quickly learn the next one that comes up.

What you will do all day:

    • Define, develop, deploy and operate software that delivers real value to Apex. We often work with micro-services, managed by Kubernetes.
    • Think through hard problems and solve them at all layers of the enterprise
    • Develop and maintain clean and consistent APIs for applications that are used internally and externally
    • Write self-documenting and well-tested code with an emphasis on sustainable development practices. Work as a part of small, productive development team that puts an emphasis on code quality, peer reviews and strong engineering practices
    • Help grow the team. As one of the team members in Belfast, you will help recruit the right talent and establish a culture that developers love to work in. Your coaching and mentoring will prove important in growing the Belfast Office.

    What you need to succeed:

    • The permanent right to live and work in the U.K.
    • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other demanding engineering degree (or equivalent work experience)
    • A strong proficiency and in-depth understanding of Java
    • Four more years of professional experience working as a part of a multi-person development team, doing code reviews, testing, CI, trunk-based development, and/or other modern software practices.
    • Demonstrated skills in software design.
    • The ability to learn new and unfamiliar technologies quickly, as required.
    • Adaptability: while you enjoy establishing processes and standards, you understand the need to be flexible and enjoy trying new things.
    • An intuitive understanding of distributed architectures – experience with event-driven architectures is a big plus.
    • A DevSecOps mindset and a driving desire to deliver value through software.
    • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is desirable
    • Experience of any cloud provider (GCP/Azure/AWS) is desirable

As part of our interview process, you will meet with members of both our Belfast and US offices. Everyone you meet, shares the same values: Open and Honest Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration, Involving Everyone, Leaders Who Serve and Personal Accountability.
