Belfast-based startup Enzai Technologies has launched its AI governance platform on the main stage at Bitkom’s Big-Data.AI Summit in Berlin, Germany.
Enzai’s founder Ryan Donnelly gave a keynote speech on the emerging global frameworks to analyse AI systems against ethical standards and how Enzai’s product can help market participants navigate this increasingly complex space.
The product is an AI governance platform that helps users understand and manage the risks that come with their AI systems. It also allows users to benchmark those systems against the emerging international regulations and frameworks and create effective governance controls to ensure a thorough analysis of AI systems.
Enzai is already working closely with some of the world’s leading AI development teams.
The landscape for AI governance is still forming. Last year the EU proposed the world’s first regulation on AI and Canada followed suit earlier this year. Sector-specific regulations are also falling into place, such as New York’s Automated Employment Decision Tool Law.

In addition to this many NGOs and industry bodies are also developing their own standards and frameworks, such as NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework in the US and the AI Verify toolkit in Singapore.
As such a variety of frameworks and options exist, it’s difficult for market participants to understand which regulations apply and which frameworks they should use to benchmark their systems. This is what the Enzai platform aims to help with.
Speaking about the platform, Enzai founder Ryan Donnelly said: “Getting this right is critical for the ecosystem. AI technologies are incredibly powerful but without proper governance in place around these systems to manage risk, they will never gain the level of trust needed to fulfil their potential. The opportunity for us to speak about what we’re building at Bitkom, in a keynote speech in front of Europe’s leading AI experts, is really special – not many startups get the chance to do that! We’re really passionate about this space and can’t wait for the opportunity to present what we’ve been building.”

Conference organiser, Merle Uhl from Bitkom, added: “I am excited that we, once again in person, gather in Berlin to explore best practices and challenges when it comes to applying technologies like AI, Big Data and Cloud. With great speakers we can learn about and discuss the newest technological developments - and of course network!”
Enzai was selected as one of the UK’s leading AI companies to take part in a one week long trade mission, organised by Innovate UK, to showcase the UK’s AI capabilities and build relationships with German industry. During the week, part of which involves attending the conference, Enzai will also be attending other meetings with German government officials, innovative industry partners and leading AI academics.
