Telefónica Tech expands Belfast office space and invests in Security Operations Centre

  • Telefónica Tech's has expanded its Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Belfast as part of an investment to increase its office space at Catalyst Inc by more than 5,000 sq ft in total.

    The expansion will enable the company to accommodate its growing workforce and deliver its specialist cyber security services to a wider range of customers in the UK and Ireland.

    Telefónica Tech recently announced that CANCOM UK&I, including the former Novosco operations in Belfast, will start operating under the Telefónica Tech UK&I brand after being acquired at the end of July for €398 million as part of the company's organic and inorganic growth plan to establish itself as a leader in digital transformation.

    Telefónica Tech UK&I includes CANCOM UK&I's 600+ professionals offering a strong portfolio of professional and managed services in advanced IT, cyber security and multi-cloud solutions, as well as being accredited as a Microsoft Gold Partner in nine disciplines.

    Speaking about the expansion Peter Russell, Managing Director of Telefónica Tech Ireland said: “It is business critical that organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors secure, protect and monitor their IT systems to prevent breaches that could have very significant repercussions. That’s why this investment is so important, enabling us to expand our offering to a wider range of customers.”

     Mr. Russell also added: “We have invested significantly in the SOC including in capital infrastructure, in our technology, and in our people to ensure we have an offering that meets the requirements of organisations with complex and sophisticated cyber security needs, such as in the health sector where we have market-leading expertise.”

    Building on the capabilities of Telefónica Tech's Global SOC, the expanded Belfast operations centre will provide services such as monitoring and analysis of customers’ IT systems to pre-empt and prevent security risks and attacks and will be based in a new purpose-built facility. The investment will also see the recruitment and training of additional cyber security personnel.
