New car parks launching across NI, including £20m Belfast city centre facility

  • A 575-space new parking facility has opened on the Grosvenor Road in Belfast city centre as part of a £20m investment.

The development also includes 7,000 sq. ft of new Grade A office space which will be occupied by the group at 19-35 Grosvenor Road on the site where the business was originally established.

The multi-storey car park was officially opened by Value Car Parks; part of the McCausland Group of companies, which is also marking its 100th year in business.

The McCausland Group said it was confident that the investment would provide a vital boost for Belfast city centre during what continues to be a challenging time for the local retail, hospitality and tourism economy.

The twelve-level facility also includes charging points for electric and hybrid vehicles, wider spaces and driveways for more accessibility.

Christopher McCausland, managing director at Value Car Parks and McCausland Group, said: “We know that the availability of affordable and accessible parking is hugely important for workers, shoppers and visitors and at a time when people are beginning to safely return to the city we’re confident this additional capacity will provide a much-needed boost.”

Value Car Parks is the latest evolution of the McCausland’s Value brand, which also encompasses Value Cabs.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has also announced the first phase of this year’s Park and Ride programme across Northern Ireland, with the aim of increasing NI’s use of public transport.

The five projects currently being prioritised are in Newtownards, Comber, Cairnshill (Belfast), Downpatrick and Trooperslane (Carrickfergus).

Minister Mallon said: “It is encouraging to see that more and more commuters are opting to use Park and Ride facilities as part of their daily journey.

“This is good news as journey times can be reduced, traffic congestion minimised, car emissions lowered and commuters can experience stress free travel while helping to deliver a cleaner, greener environment.

“All of these projects will service busy commuter routes and when complete will provide 2,030 spaces.”
