Businesses can apply now for £30k grant to help in COVID-19 fight

  • The Eastern Corridor Medical Engineering (ECME) research centre is granting businesses up to £30,000 to support the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

The crisis is having a significant impact on the research and innovation community, across the island of Ireland and internationally.

Managed by Ulster University, ECME will invite proposals from eligible enterprises that align with the challenge areas identified by the World Health Organisation.

Such challenge areas include the development of machine learning algorithms that can assist in COVID-19 modelling and the design and manufacture of PPE equipment for use by front line staff.

Grants will be awarded to several industry collaborators to assist with the commercialisation of co-developed products and services which support the national and international response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will be done through a competitive process to “maximise the impact of the grant awards on sustainable economic and COVID-19 activity.”

ECME business manager Patrick Cullen said: “I would encourage you to study the details of the Draft Call and respond as swiftly as possible if you believe your company has a contribution to make during this unprecedented time.”

The closing date for applications under the First Call is Friday 24 April.

The ECME project is a partnership focusing on cardiovascular medicine between give academic research centres and the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.

Full details on the call including an Application Form and Guidance Notes can be found at here.
