Allstate Northern Ireland wins big at the 2019 Women in Business awards

  • Local tech firms Allstate Northern Ireland and First Derivatives plc won awards at this year's Women in Business Awards in Belfast.

    The annual Women in Business Awards have celebrated the success of women in the world of business for the past nine years, and this year's event in Belfast was a very successful one for Allstate Northern Ireland and others. A record 185 entries where submitted by companies and entrepreneurs from across Northern Ireland, and this week 16 people and one business took home awards.

    Allstate Northern Ireland's Linda O’Reilly took home the award for Excellence in IT and its Dr Liz O’Sullivan won the Award for Outstanding Innovation (Corporate). First Derivatives plc's Anne Marie Patterson won the Award for Best in Professional Services (Corporate).

    Women in Business Chief Executive, Roseann Kelly commented, “We are honoured to bring together so many successful and inspiring women from across Northern Ireland. Awards such as these are crucial to promote positive recognition and encourage others to strive to achieve their goals and challenge outdated stereotypes.”

    This year's Business Woman of the Year award went to entrepreneur Edel Doherty, the founder and managing director of bespoke travel management company Beyond Business Travel. The company started in 2010 and has already grown to over 25 staff with turnover of £16m. A Special Lifetime Achievement Award was also given to Wilma Erskine, the secretary-manager of Royal Portrush, following the success of the 148th Open at Royal Portrush.
