The Erskine House development in Belfast's city centre has now completed its building phase and is being readied for HMRC to move in over 1,600 of its staff.
Workers in the city centre will have spotted the striking Erskine House development going up in the city centre, with its curved design and central location in the city. The newly developed building will soon serve as the Belfast Regional Centre for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), servicing all of Northern Ireland from one central location.
The build phase of the project has now been completed and the internals are being fitted out. HMRC’s Regional Implementation Lead Tina Gallagher was presented with a ceremonial key at a handover ceremony to mark the completion of this phase of the development. The building will officially open in December this year when all the staff will relocate.
The plan for the new building is to centralise around 1,600 HMRC staff in one location to help them perform more effectively. Tina Gallagher explained: "The department has a large and long established presence in Northern Ireland and the new regional centre in Belfast demonstrates our commitment to the region and its economy."
The construction phase was carried out by local firm GRAHAM, and the fitting contract has been awarded to the firm's fit-out division. This will include fitting all of the internal walls, floors, lighting, and electrics to get the building ready for opening day in December. While HMRC will take up most of the building, the ground floor will open a series of commercial outlets.
