Local cancer support charity Hope House Ireland has seen a big boost in donations thanks to a website by Flint Studios and through fundraising efforts.
Cancer treatment is one of the toughest things a person can go through, with sufferers and their carers getting little respite from the condition even after treatment. That's where local charity Hope House Ireland comes in, offering free accommodation for a short break away for those with cancer and their carers either during or after their treatment.
The building itself is a cottage built on the water edge at the picturesque Browns Bay beach in Islandmagee, a tranquil location that overlooks both the countryside and the sea. The non-profit charity renovated the building in October 2018 to begin offering short stays to those in need of a break from the stress of their condition, and it survives on donations.
Belfast-based web solutions provider Flint Studios did its part for the charity by donating a website that they can use to accept donations digitally, and it looks like the website has paid off. Hope House Ireland has announced that over £12,000 has been donated via the website and local fundraising efforts so far, enough to let the charity's owners Roy and Dawn McConnell to keep offering the service.
“We know how valuable removing yourself from the normal, everyday routine can be following diagnosis, during treatment and even throughout the recovery process," explained Dawn, adding that "during this time disposable income can be drastically reduced which makes getting away for a few days incredibly difficult."
