NI Water’s Aughlish Water Pumping Station Upgrade Project has been honoured with a prestigious International Green World Award. The project was delivered in collaboration with Water Solutions Ireland (WSI), joint venture partner GEDA, Pumps & Systems Ltd and McAdam Design.
This award recognises the project’s environmental excellence, innovation and energy-efficient solutions - specifically its energy reduction and pump optimisation scheme.
Patrick Cunningham, Contracts Director at Water Solutions Ireland, said:
“This award is a significant acknowledgement of our team’s dedication to delivering innovative, energy-efficient water solutions. Working alongside NI Water and our JV partners GEDA, the Aughlish Road project shows how collaborative efforts in the water sector can drive real environmental impact. We are proud to see this work recognised on an international stage.”
The Green World Awards ceremony took place on Monday, 13th April at the iconic Cardiff Castle in Wales, followed by a local presentation event hosted at Sinton’s At The Bridge, Scarva on Thursday 30th April, which the partners attended.
Speaking at the event, Colin Murtagh, Energy Reduce Use Programme Manager at NI Water said,
“We are delighted that the Aughlish Water Pumping Station Upgrade has received this prestigious Green World Award. The project shows how targeted investment, strong partnership working and innovative engineering can deliver environmental benefits while protecting customer supplies. By reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiency, it supports NI Water’s journey towards net zero.
“Working with Pumps & Systems Ltd and McAdams Design, we completed full front-end engineering design and selected high-efficiency pump sets to reduce energy demand. Delivered with our contracting partners WSI and GEDA, the upgrade has halved on-site energy use, improved resilience and reduced maintenance costs, helping safeguard supplies for around 5,000 homes and more than 900 businesses. This initiative is part of an ongoing wider work programme to progress pump optimisation across the province supported by funding from the Department for the Economy. It demonstrates how innovation and investment can deliver measurable results.”
The Green World Awards are internationally recognised, celebrating projects, organisations and initiatives that demonstrate exceptional environmental responsibility, innovation, and impact.
This global accolade reflects the strength of collaboration between NI Water, Water Solutions Ireland, GEDA, Pump & Systems Ltd and McAdam Design, demonstrating what can be achieved when expertise and innovation are brought together to deliver sustainable outcomes.
