Craigavon-based smart technology installer Epitome Living has partnered with the home adaptation and mobility experts at Sync Living to boost the independence of people with mobility needs who want to live on their own.
The investment from Epitome Living sees an ambient assisted living solution installed in the Sync Living Independence and Mobility Hub. The North Belfast-based hub is the first dedicated independent living showroom in Ireland and offers personalised assessments and expert advice on mobility and accessibility products.
Epitome Living was founded in 2017 to enhance people’s lives at home with technology that automates everyday tasks like turning on lights, controlling the building’s temperature, and opening and closing blinds.

Since then, the company has diversified to deliver smart technology and audiovisual installations in commercial settings like showrooms, offices, and hospitality venues whilst retaining its core residential smart home offerings.
The company’s investment in the Sync Living showroom came about following conversations about how smart technology can be used to boost the independence of people who need additional support to live alone.
Ambient assisted living - also known as AAL - uses discreet technology systems to create safe, easily monitored environments for people who want to lead independent lives. Non-intrusive behaviour monitoring is used to recognise patterns in behaviour and log the data in a hub installed in the occupant’s home.
When out-of-character behaviours are logged, anyone with access to the app connected to this hub is informed via a push notification: this can include family members, friends, or carers. The push notification prompts a check in with the home’s occupant from this chosen support network.
Speaking on the investment, Scott McMurray, founder and director of Epitome Living, said: “When it’s used correctly, smart building technology can genuinely change lives. Our goal at Epitome Living is to make people’s lives easier with the technology we install, and we see no better way to achieve that in a new market than by partnering with Sync Living to highlight the benefits of ambient assisted living.
“Sync Living has the in-house expertise to know what their customers need from smart technology, and we’ve got the practical knowledge to design and install the systems that give people the independence they’ve been searching for.
“We look forward to helping people all over Ireland live more independently this year and seeing the technology we install simplify lives in ways we’ve only scratched the surface of until this point.”
Stephen Flynn, business development and showroom manager at Sync Living, added: “Thanks to our collaboration with Epitome Living, people in Ireland now have the opportunity to see how ambient assisted living technology works in context for the first time at our Independence and Mobility Hub in North Belfast.

Ambient assisted living solutions by Epitome Living are ideal for people with additional needs who are already living on their own or are seeking to live on their own.
The technology can now be experienced in person at Sync Living’s Independence and Mobility Hub in Jennymount Business Park.
