UK-based Net Zero Technology innovator CATAGEN has today officially launched its ClimaHtech Compressor technology at Gastech 2025 in Milan, marking a major leap forward in hydrogen compression innovation. The launch includes both static and mobile compressor models, engineered to transform energy efficiency, cost, and reliability across hydrogen refuelling and distribution applications.
The unveiling took place at the CATAGEN exhibition stand on the opening day of Gastech, with CATAGEN Group Chair Dr. Andrew Woods and ClimaHtech COMPRESS CEO Stephen Treanor introducing the technology.

On average 28% Energy Savings – A World Leading Liquid Piston Hydrogen Compressor
The ClimaHtech Compressor leverages CATAGEN’s patent-protected hybrid liquid piston system that eliminates the need for traditional mechanical componentry such as diaphragms or pistons. Instead, the innovative design uses a liquid column to compress hydrogen while simultaneously extracting heat — a feature that delivers best-in-class thermodynamic efficiency.
“We are incredibly proud to launch this breakthrough technology here at Gastech — the most influential stage in the global energy sector,” said Dr. Andrew Woods, CATAGEN CEO and ClimaHtech COMPRESS Chair. “The ClimaHtech Compressor changes the game in hydrogen compression, enabling on average 28% energy savings and reducing total cost of ownership by up to 30%. This technology is ready to scale globally through licensing or strategic partnerships.”
Static and Mobile Versions Now Available
The Static Compressor supports hydrogen refuelling, trailer filling and storage applications with a
compression range from 30 to 700 bar.
The Mobile Compressor offers a compact and refuelling-ready platform with onboard storage and
an H35 nozzle, perfect for off-road or remote vehicle fuelling scenarios, with pressure capabilities
up to 350 bar.
Built for Integration Across the Hydrogen Value Chain
The technology has been developed by CATAGEN’s world-class team of engineers and scientists at its Belfast Net Zero campus, and is already attracting global attention for use in:
• Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (on-road & off-road)
• Electrolyser integration
• Mobile and trailer-based storage solutions
The technology is now available to license or acquire through CATAGEN’s strategic partnership programme, with technical design packs and IP access available for approved partners.

Part of a Broader Vision to Decarbonise Industry
CATAGEN’s compressor is one of several proprietary technologies developed to accelerate the global transition to clean energy. The company is also pioneering sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biohydrogen, and e-fuel reactors — forming the foundation of its ClimaHtech platform for decarbonisation at scale.
Dr. Woods will also speak on the Industrial Decarbonisation panel during Gastech’s Hydrogen Conference series, sharing insights on next-generation solutions to unlock hard-to-abate sectors.
