Alan Clarke, Founder of Paste Dental, is adopting new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance patient outcomes.
Alan said: “As a young entrepreneur, I know first-hand that keeping up with the latest technological trends is essential to stay ahead of the curve in today’s fast-paced business world. For startups, it’s even more important to harness creative and innovative thinking to succeed globally, but also here in Belfast."
"The dental industry is ripe for disruption, and AI has the potential to revolutionise the way we think about dentistry as a business. Despite being a vital component of overall health, many people still view dental care as an inconvenience due to its high cost."
"By leveraging the power of AI, we now have the potential to streamline and automate many tasks, while also reducing costs and increasing efficiencies across our business. These developments also let our team focus on the patient, and focus on developing their own skills."

AI is able to sift through large amounts of data quickly and accurately, which can be useful in dentistry as it can analyse vast amounts of medical data to identify patterns and make predictions, particularly in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
Alan continued: "We have partnered with Pearl, an AI company based in Los Angeles, to become the first dental practice here and in the Republic to provide our patients with the earliest possible diagnosis by analysing dental x-rays to identify potential problem areas, such as cavities or gum disease, and recommend appropriate treatment options based on the patient's medical history and current symptoms."
Another area which Alan highlighted can be optimised with technology is patient communication and engagement. This is an essential part of the business as patients want to feel they are respected and cared for just like one of our own family.
Alan commented: "Chairsyde, a London-based tech start-up helps us to put the patient firmly at the centre of everything by using a bespoke suite of animations, videos, content, and tools, taking patients on a complete journey of understanding of their proposed care."
Paste is the first practice to use Chairsyde technology locally and it has enhanced their offering by providing their patients with knowledge, data and giving the power back to them.
Alan concluded: "The dental market is on the cusp of a major technological revolution, and I am proud that innovation has formed part of the Paste culture, and allowed us to reframe the narrative of what a dental practice should be.”
