Kelly Graham is a digital expert at PA Consulting, the global innovation and transformation consultancy
What does your typical day look like?
A typical day starts with checking emails, and the various messaging platforms before the morning stand up. After this my days are a mix of coding, calls to discuss future work or improvements with the team, client calls, or internal calls with various committees like the women’s network, mental health, mentoring, or earlier careers development.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working within a managed service team that delivers third line support for several different applications across various tech stacks, mainly within medical health and research applications. As you can imagine these projects became very busy over the last couple of years.
What inspired you to join this company in particular?
PA Consulting is a consulting firm that has a wide range of clients in different areas, however the one thing that stood out to me during the interview process was the culture within the office. The staff were genuinely friendly and accommodating, they have different committees for mental health, charity, pride, and social to name a few, that you can join and help organise events for.
Did you always want to work in this industry (tech)?
Growing up I always wanted to work with animals, however in my last year at school I changed direction completely and studied Computer Games Application Development at Abertay University.
What’s your favorite part about your work?
I enjoy solving a problem, being able to work with clients to triage an issue, resolve it and in turn making their lives easier.
What would you say to other people considering a job in this industry (tech)?
Go for it! There are so many different roles and opportunities in the industry and Belfast is very quickly growing into a main hub for businesses.
What do you consider to be the most important tech innovation or development in recent years?
The development of augmented and virtual reality technologies have allowed for really interesting experiences across the world. Some great examples are being able to “travel” to different places within your room or brining the virtual into the real world with AR experiences on your phone.
What tech gadget could you not live without?
A mobile phone is a very popular answer to this question, so I’m going to add Sat Nav as well.
