Biography:
I work at CDE Global as Business Systems Engineer working with our core ERP System, SQL Scripting, PL/SQL as well as PowerBI developments. I always found my educational path very interesting that led me to where I am now, as it started it with a Foundation Degree in Interactive Media at Belfast Met to a year out in United States under Study USA Programme studying Business Management to completing my Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media Design at Ulster University.
What does your typical day look like?
Typical day usually starts with a quick catch up with myself from the day before and planning for day ahead. I always like to stay organized therefore I create quick logs on Trello and OneNote of things I’d like to get archived today and then go through them one by one accompanied with a good Spotify playlist.
What are you currently working on?
At the minute my main priority is a series of dashboards that focus on project analysis. It’s a series of visuals that measure different phases of a project starting at a top tier where you can drill through to bottom trier (another dashboard) which holds detailed but key information to assist Project Managers with smooth and on time delivery.
What inspired you to join this company in particular?
No matter who you’ll speak to you will always quickly learn that it’s the people that make CDE the company that it is. It’s being driven by challenge, innovation, diversity and sense of togetherness and that is something that I truly value.
Did you always want to work in this industry (tech)?
I think I’ve always inclined towards technology mainly because I was curious as to how it all worked. Back when I was growing up in the 90s and early 2000s we were going through a lot of firsts and I made sure to always be there for it. I mean c’mon…MP3 players (R.I.P Discman), PS1 or first desktop PC! How things have changed now!
What’s your favourite part about your work?
Favourite part must be working collectively with individuals across different departments, understanding their business processes’ and coming up with intelligent solutions in order to provide further improvements.
What would you say to other people considering a job in this industry (tech)?
Absolutely and entirely go for it! Technology is a great environment where there is lots of room for professional self-improvement and continuous learning and growth.
How do you see this technology impacting on our lives?
Answer to this question can depend on the angle we look at it from but genuinely technology stands behind advancements in medical, business wide, educational or travelling industries to name a few. We are in fact positively impacted by it in our daily life’s.
Who inspired you to work in this field?
I believe that I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a great group of motivational educators- especially in my secondary school where you are at that key stage in your live where you decide upon what it is that you want to pursue. They were able to identify my strengths and push me towards technology!
What do you consider to be the most important tech innovation or development in recent years?
AI and machine learning applications without a doubt at the top of the list. Microsoft alone has given extraordinary examples of how AI is the drive behind innovation, and it goes from protecting wildlife to preserving history. Last one here is very interesting subject area as it involved creating 3D replica models of landmarks that are under threat of conflict, war, demolition, time or nature and it serves as an excellent preservation tool in order to protect our heritage.
What tech gadget could you not live without?
This one is going to be very simple – my smartphone! It holds everything in my entire life in one place. Plus it’s got 20mp camera and I’m a sucker for a good photo!
