Tech Trailblazer: Caoimhe McGeough, Service Transition Manager, Agio

  • Caoimhe Mc Geough is a Service Transition Manager at Agio, now part of Netrio, with a strong background in IT Service Delivery. She graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a degree in Business Information Technology and is passionate about delivering seamless technology services and creating positive experiences for both clients and teams.

Caoimhe shares with Sync NI her insights into career development, the importance of mentorship and networking, and why technology is an exciting and inclusive field, particularly for those from non-technical backgrounds or returning to work.

Have you always had an interest in technology and was there a specific person or source of inspiration that led you into your current career path?

I’ve always had an interest in technology, especially since I was one of the first year groups to pursue an ICT path in school. However, at the time, I didn’t see myself working in tech. It wasn’t until attending careers fairs and speaking with professionals from the industry that I realised how many non-technical roles existed in tech. My current role at Agio, now part of Netrio, is a great example of how I’m able to apply my skills in both technology and process management.

What would you consider to be the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of your job?

The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing a smooth service transition come together. Onboarding a new client or service can be complex, but it’s incredibly satisfying when everything clicks. At Agio, now part of Netrio,  we prioritise both employee engagement and client loyalty, so it’s rewarding to know that our efforts not only strengthen client relationships but also foster a positive team culture.

In terms of career development, how important is it to build a professional network and attend industry events?

You cannot underestimate the importance of networks within companies and the broader industry. I had the privilege of being selected for a global high-potential program earlier in my career, which allowed me to connect with people from diverse cultures, values, and experiences. These connections have been invaluable, providing support and fresh perspectives when seeking advice or discussing challenges. Building a strong network, both internally and externally, can really help you grow and develop.

How much impact can a mentor have on your personal development?

Mentorship has been crucial to my personal and professional growth. It provides guidance, boosts confidence, and helps navigate challenges. At Agio, now part of Netrio, we believe in #SpeakUp—encouraging open communication and feedback to help everyone grow and reach their full potential.

What guidance would you offer to any young person on why they should consider a career in technology?

The pace at which technology is advancing is incredible - just look at how AI is transforming the world. Being part of the tech industry right now is an exciting opportunity to shape the future. It's a field that’s always evolving, and I truly believeit’s one you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

What advice would you give to women considering a career change or who are returning to work who might be daunted at the prospect of working in what can be perceived as a male dominated industry?

Don’t let the fact that tech can be male dominated hold you back. Some of my best mentors have been men, offering invaluable support and guidance. Focus on your skills and perspective and seek out mentors who can help you grow. In the end, it’s your talent and drive that count, and that’s something that’s really evident at Agio, now part of Netrio. Agio embraces diversity and encourages everyone to go beyond their role - what matters most is the value you bring through your unique skills and perspective.

For those who may not come from a STEM background, what other career opportunities exist within the tech sector beyond software engineering?

The tech sector is much more than just software engineering. There are opportunities in service management, project management, marketing, customer success, and support, to name just a few. At Agio, now part of Netrio, we foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation, so whether you're technical or non-technical, there’s always room to grow and thrive.
