For more than a decade, Proofpoint has been providing email security from Silicon Valley for some of the world’s largest companies. But to expand its market to smaller business customers, Proofpoint found the capability and the culture it needed in Northern Ireland, with the acquisition of Belfast-based Maildistiller. Integrating the two companies has produced a new product set custom-built for the SME market: Proofpoint Essentials. As sophisticated threats to email and data security proliferate into ever smaller targets, this new product offers the same core functionality with which Proofpoint serves the Fortune 1000, with a feature set tailored for small businesses and their service providers. The acquisition has put more startup spirit back in Proofpoint’s blood and given them a new base to take on Europe.
