As we move into the era of Big Data, companies have never had so much information available than they have today.

However, despite gathering masses of data, SMEs often find it difficult to present it in a meaningful way. What companies do with data, and how they present it to others, is an integral part of realising the value of those datasets. After all, there is no point in storing all this data if we cannot use it to communicate to others what the data is telling us.

To that end, Belfast Met has been working closely with companies in Northern Ireland through its Connected programme in order to help them harness data analytics and emerging technology to analyse and present their vast quantities of Big Data. As part of that programme, Belfast Met recently held two data visualisation workshops with over sixty attendees where Yvonne Gamble spoke about the techniques and tools that can be used to effectively communicate data and the story it tells. Both workshops were very positively received, with companies stating that the event "whet the appetite", was "informative and well-pitched", "very inspiring" and gave attendees "ideas going forward".
