BT Group plc published its quarterly results today, revealing a strong second quarter for the business where revenues rose by 35% and the company added 280,000 net monthly mobile subscribers to its customer base.
In Northern Ireland, BT’s quarterly results revealed that more than 265,000 homes and businesses in the province have now connected to superfast fibre broadband over the BT network, and the company is investing in a suite of technologies to boost broadband speeds further still, as well as extending the reach of its network into rural parts of the province.
The telecoms company secured a number of key contracts with businesses and public sector organisations in Northern Ireland last quarter, including Public Prosecution Service NI, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, and Account NI at the Department of Finance, which has extended their partnership with BT for the provision of their financial shared service for a further two years.
As it seeks to capitalise on its strong performance, BT has confirmed that it is currently seeking to fill over 100 permanent positions for both full time and part time staff in Northern Ireland, including roles in its Technology Services, Operations and Design & Delivery divisions.
Highlighting the company’s strong performance, and its growth plans for its Northern Ireland operations, Colm O’Neill, Managing Director, Major Business & Public Sector, BT Group:
“We’ve had a strong performance in the second quarter and these solid results are in line with expectations. BT continues to invest in infrastructure, innovative products and services, and jobs in Northern Ireland to maintain our leadership position in the communications and IT services sector.
Increasing the availability and speeds of the fibre broadband network is a priority, and throughout this financial year we are installing new technologies in locations as well as delivering broadband projects in conjunction with the NI government.”
