According to recent research by the technology market research firm, Juniper Research, there are currently 13.4 billion connected devices in the world, and that number is forecast to jump to 38.5 billion by 2020…that’s a lot of internet-enabled “things”.
Northern Ireland is home to a growing community of Internet of Things experts, including Jon Sawdon Smith and Michelle Douglas at Inventshed, who run the IoT Belfast meetup. So it’s great news for the province’s IoT sector that Belfast Met, which collaborates with business and industry on a wide range of disruptive technologies (including cyber security, cloud computing and the Internet of Things) through its Connected programme, is partnering with IoT Belfast to host an IoT Workshop next week.
The workshop will take place at Belfast Met’s Community Learning Centre on Wednesday 14th September, and will feature a range of speakers, including Jon from Inventshed, who will kick off proceedings, and Nuala Kilmartin from Belfast Met, who will outline how Belfast Met collaborates with and supports businesses and startups in Northern Ireland.
Richard Bullock from PGR Accountants will also take the stage at the IoT Workshop, and will educate attendees on how they can ensure their innovative IoT solutions qualify for R&D tax credits.
Finally, Philip McAleese, founder of See.Sense, will close the proceedings with a little bit of background information on his startup, and an overview of how See.Sense is helping to build Smart Cities with its innovative IoT bicycle lights.
