  • Sport is a thriving business sector in Northern Ireland – in fact, according to Sport NI the sports sector contributes £242 million to the Northern Irish economy each year, and accounts for almost 2% of the province’s gross value added.

With that in mind, BT hosted a Business of Sport event at Kingspan Stadium earlier today, in association with Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce.

The BT Business of Sport event was attended by more than 100 business leaders from across Northern Ireland, who were given the opportunity to sit in on an interview with the highly motivational and seasoned business executive, Shane Logan, who held high-level roles with Harland and Wolff, Coca Cola and the Royal National Institute of the Blind before taking over as CEO of Ulster Rugby in 2010.  Through Shane’s focus on innovation and commercial success, Ulster Rugby has emerged as a leader both on and off the pitch.

Shane was interviewed by Peter Russell, General Manager of BT Business in Northern Ireland and himself a former Ireland rugby international, and the pair both took questions from the audience of Northern Irish entrepreneurs.

BT is the official communications partner to Ulster Rugby, and during the event Peter Russell highlighted BT’s commitment to the business of sport in Northern Ireland and to its partnership with Ulster Rugby: “BT is looking forward to supporting Ulster Rugby again this season as they continue to strive towards success both on and off the pitch. Ulster Rugby is one of Ulster’s most successful and progressive organisations and in them BT has found a partner with a shared drive and mission to evolve, continually improve and deliver outstanding results, which benefit our customers and Ulster Rugby supporters.”

Shane Logan, CEO of Ulster Rugby, added: “BT’s support as the Official Communications partner to Ulster Rugby has played a tremendous role in our development. Their vision and innovation has helped to transform fans’ match day experience and brings together passionate supporters from across the Province.”
