Chris started the business in his bedroom whilst studying at Queen’s University, initially selling computer games to Australia. Today, the company is a global retailer shipping over 1,000 parcels daily. In 2015 Ozaroo.com was named as one the UK and Ireland's Top 50 fastest-growing technology companies and Northern Ireland's regional winner in the UK Fast 50.
The Ozaroo.com founder was speaking at Lagan Valley Island Conference Centre today at a Leadership in the Digital Age event as part of Management and Leadership Network’s Management Month. The theme of his talk was ‘Bedroom to Boardroom - lessons learnt from six years of business’.
Mr Martin said: “I started Ozaroo.com from my bedroom and today we’re competing with some of the biggest global retailers in the world - proof that with commitment and the right team anyone can compete in the digital world. Barriers to starting and growing in the digital world are seen as opportunities by our team who pro-actively resolve problems as quickly as possible and constantly find ways to build a sustainable business.
“Today I shared some of our business principles and lessons that we’ve learned along the way, including understanding customer demands and being able to develop and build custom software to compete against other global online retailers. Ozaroo.com is all about helping people - from creating careers and supporting local people and their families to helping customers around the world save money on things they may not otherwise be able to afford. Although we never intentionally targeted growth, through our passion, utter dedication and obsession with getting it right, growth takes care of itself.”
Management Month, which is organized by MLN and sponsored by Danske Bank, consists of seven events, taking place in February, offering managers the chance to hear from top business leaders.
