On Friday 27th November, Allstate Northern Ireland’s XtheTXT campaign was highly commended in the Secondary School Project category at the first ever NI Road Safety Awards, organized by CRASH Services and held at Cultra Manor.
Since 2010 Allstate Northern Ireland’s XtheTXT road safety campaign, in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland and DOE, has led the way in promoting the dangers of using a mobile phone whilst driving, delivering workshops to more than 20,000 students across the province to date.
Rose Kelly, VP & CAO, Allstate NI said, “The XtheTXT campaign has always been both creative and innovative, most recently running an app development competition for 15–22 year olds. Participants were encouraged to think about road safety in a different way, and were asked to come up with creative ideas for an XtheTXT mobile app. The winning team received £500 for their school and the top four entries were invited into the Allstate NI Belfast office for an app development session with some of our IT experts.”
The Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon PCSP Young Persons and Drivers project came away as worthy winners of the Secondary School Project category at the inaugural event. Amanda Mulholland, one of the local PCSP Managers said, “The XtheTXT campaign has been an integral part of the YPAD project since it was developed in 2011, and we were delighted to be able to share this award with the XtheTXT team.”

There is so much great work going on across the Northern Ireland to help keep our roads safe and help eliminate the tragic incidents of road death and injury.
