    Your role in the team

     

     

    Within the Allstate Marketing Dept., the Strategy, Analytics and Growth Engineering (SAGE) area provides fact-based analytics, research and insights to drive and influence decision-making that supports growth platforms for marketing, customer experience and new products and services.  The Marketing analytics group is responsible for using data to make decisions, which includes the development of frameworks and models that are leveraged to optimize marketing programs, drive efficiency, and create action from analytic insights.  Our mission is to use data and analytics to decode how Allstate brand, audience development, message, content, and execution vehicles are all working together to engage prospect and current customers.  We are a results-driven, passionate, and inquisitive group of analytic professionals that are developing marketing analytic solutions for our interconnected world.

     

     

    We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to work in the SAGE Data Engineering Team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of data infrastructure projects & proof of concept business solutions for users in analytics and Data Science. This person works directly with business users, data scientists, and analytic engineers on needs and tactical solutions. This role will execute new ETL work tracks for Data Science and analytics from inception and prototyping to fully developed solutions and transition to Allstate technology.

     

     

    For this role, you should know how to analyze system requirements and implement migration methods for existing data. Hands-on experience with Domino, Python, SQL, Oracle and Scality/Hadoop technologies is also required.

     

     

     

     

     

    Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

     

     

    • Work closely with Data Science and business teams to take loosely defined Data Science and data engineering needs, break down the business problems into solvable components, and brings solutions from ideation to working pilots/deliverables.
    • As a team expert, provide direction to peers and AOR partners, on technical solutions.  Understand the changing analytic needs of users and Data Scientists and assists in the development of goals, and tracks of work to meet those needs.
    • Partner on new ideas and initiatives, and execute rapid development of new data and analytic work tracks
    • Support/develop the data infrastructure required to support needs of predictive modeling and analytics. Support the environment; implement monitoring, quality and validation processes to ensure data accuracy.
    • Development of data assets, information platforms or data spaces designed for exploring and understanding the data.
    • Execute data exploration, data engineering, testing and implementation.
    • Mentor other team members in a business technical environment and creates/promotes an environment that supports innovation and process improvement.
    • Auditing existing data repositories and developing recommendations for improved efficiency to maximise data usability.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data strategy and policies for SAGE.
    • Research and learn new technologies and provide recommendations for adoption of the most appropriate solutions for SAGE. 
    • Maintaining collaboration with other areas of Allstate to ensure SAGE aligns with best practice.

     

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
    • 4+ years Oracle/SQL Experience
    • 2+ years Hadoop/Scality Experience (Python/PySpark/Spark etc.)
    • 3-5 years of related ETL experience or equivalent skills & ability
    • Technology fluency with data infrastructure/applications (Scality, Domino, Oracle, Spark, SQL, Python, Unix Scripting)
    • Ability to communicate complex concepts and designed solutions.

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

     

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field such as Computer Science, Data Architecture, Engineering, Physics or similar subject, or equivalent experience.
    • Expertise in UNIX/Linux
    • Ability to learn new technologies and help integrate them successfully into the work flow
    • Ability to deal with an array of data sources, all in different forms and willingness to use an array of tools or methods to create a solution
