Senior Data Engineer - Fraud Technology (hybrid or remote)

    Your role in the team

     

     

    As a Data Engineer in the D&IS (Data & Intelligent Systems) Enterprise Fraud Team you'll be responsible for the development of data pipelines within the Enterprise Fraud Team, to equip our D3 (Data Discovery & Decision Science) Data Science partners with the datasets they need for modelling. You will also work Closely with Our Business Partners to provide them data required to alert them to potential Fraud within the Allstate Ecosystem. This position will also naturally expose you to a wide variety of problem domains requiring you to be an avid and versatile learner eager to grow, collaborate, and develop with the team.                                         

     

     

    Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

     

    • Researching and evaluation of new tools and technologies to solve business problems
    • Responsible for designing and building platforms for analyzing data into actionable Fraud insights
    • Translate business concepts into technical implementations
    • Work on a geographically dispersed team embracing Agile and DevOps
    • Participate in strategic planning discussions with technical and non-technical partners
    • Effective and efficient utilization of Data Engineering tools and techniques
    • Provide expert advice to our clients.
    • Mentors’ others and continually develops themselves.

     

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
    • 4+ years’ experience coding and in languages such as Python, SQL.
    • 2+ years’ experience of Linux (Red Hat or Ubuntu)
    • Experienced in the development of modern data engineering solutions, including the implementation and operation of data analytics, either on-prem or in the cloud
    • Experienced in working in a modern data practice, alongside data scientists and data platform specialists.
    • Fluent in data engineering concepts, such as data lakes, data features, data streaming/pipelines, data warehousing/marts, distributed analytics, and edge computing
    • Experienced in being the design authority for data engineering solutions or data analytics
    • A mentor and a coach for more junior data engineers on the team, capable of peer reviewing the work of others in a collaborative way

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Experienced in leading a small data engineering capability or team
    • Expert in PySpark
    • ETL Technologies.
    • NoSQL databases (e.g., Mongo, Cassandra).
    • Data Visualization with technologies such as Tableau or Power BI
    • Hadoop and associated technologies (e.g., Hive / Impala, Spark).
    • Kafka and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, Apache Flink).
