    Consultant - Innovative Technologies (AI/ML)

    Role Purpose & Context

    Reporting to the Director of Evolve, the Consultant - Innovative Technologies (AI/ML) will lead, engage and drive the most significant and complex engagements for Liberty Mutual working directly with very senior leadership (Senior IT Directors and Business leaders). A transformational leader working on behalf of LIT across Liberty Mutual. The Consultant - Innovative Technologies (AI/ML) will be responsible for working with senior leadership across the business to transform the operation. They have a very wide range of skills and are equally comfortable working in the technology and business domains.

    They will lead exploration into uncontested and unchartered territory for LIT and will be recognized as transformational leaders within Liberty Mutual. The Consultant - Innovative Technologies (AI/ML) is an expert in leading diverse groups of people from across business and technology, identifying how value can be brought to the operation, building consensus and seeing the opportunity through to conclusion when value has been realized. They have strong programme management skills combined with a deep knowledge of how technology can be used to transform and intelligently automate the business value chains. They can lead large groups of people on large programs or across many smaller initiatives.

    The Consultant - Innovative Technologies (AI/ML) has a very broad range of skills, deep expertise of the Liberty Mutual business and can adapt to any situation. They are experts in change and are excellent mentors and coaches. They lead our innovation activities, are very experienced in helping incubate and scale new opportunities. They help build a culture of experimentation and adoption of new thinking across LM and LIT. They build very strong partnerships both internally and externally.


    Latitude to Act

    Primary mode - Transformation

    Leads our most complex and strategic engagements across Business & IT domains. Will specialize in one type of consultancy and be recognized for it (Product, Technical, Business, Transformation, etc.). Will typically operate and interact at the Senior Director / CIO level and will be primarily focused on influencing and partnering with people at that level.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Act as lead on our most strategic and complex Digital transformation engagements from inception through to conclusion acting as the key driver along the full digital lifecycle. Will typically involve significant buy-in from very senior people and championing the cause to get funding for the initiative. Partnering with Business, IT, LIT and vendor groups and acting as the glue to bring all parties together to gain alignment and drive the program through to value realization.
    • Act as a lead on Digital Engagements, ensuring you gain alignment with the various stakeholders and progress the engagement through to conclusion. Act as champion and lead across the full digital lifecycle from inception of idea, through exploration, scaling and eventually working with the appropriate party to transition ownership for the solution.
    • Explore and evolve new consulting needs and opportunities from interaction with internal and external customers which will have strategic significance for LIT. Identify and cultivate key relationships in strategic areas, laying the foundation for future strategic relationships. Oversee and approve Liberty IT’s consulting capability, generating appropriate funding for consulting engagements.
    • Build a culture of experimentation and adoption of new capabilities, resulting in the ongoing evolution of a suite of common practices, techniques & processes across Liberty IT which adds business value. Partner with Account Directors and plan at the account level how and when to transition key practices and techniques into the organization based on the customer's needs.
    • Recognized as a transformational leader at the SBU level in Liberty Mutual and in alignment with EBT objectives to ensure Incubator and LIT are appropriately positioned to execute on their strategic objectives. Act as an equal and a leader at the initiative level being asked for advice and challenging partners in equal measure.
    • Partner with LIT Account Directors and Incubator leadership to provide consultancy services to our LM Business partners. Recognized as an expert in Business Consultancy with a strong track record of previous engagements and capable of integrating with the Business team, fully conversant in the business language and understanding. Build a strong relationship and understanding with Liberty Mutual Business and IT partners, positioning LIT for high-quality work.
    • Act as a LIT ambassador both internally for LIT and in the external market. Will be held up as a role model for our staff and is visibly send promoting the company values. Regularly asked to present at company-level events and will regularly interact with CIOs and LIT leadership. Very visible promotion of company initiatives and reinforcement of the strategic direction of the company and how each initiative contributes to that overall direction.
    • Use significant experience to coach and mentor other members of staff, helping to grow leaders for the future. Typically coach and mentor at the Account level (AD, US equivalent) and be recognized and sought out for these skills and experience.
    • Act as a trusted advisor for a Senior member of staff (LIT Account Director, Senior IT Director or Business equivalent) on a significant program or engagement.
    • Enhance Liberty IT’s Innovation capability and influences Liberty Mutual partners’ thinking on how they secure maximum value from LIT. Transform how large groups work and behave. Create an innovative culture across large areas and transforms how programmes operate across diverse groups leaving behind lasting change to how those groups work leaving a legacy of innovative thinking behind.
    • Pre-empt, identify and lead the resolution of organizational systematic problems and trends – work with other leaders to identify systematic problems or trends and works with appropriate leadership to resolve the issues and propagate learnings.

    • Perception of LIT from our customer's perspective (Thought leaders versus builders).
    • Positioning of LIT in the strategic programmes.
    • LIT’s overall position with our customers (in partnership with our Account Directors).

    Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

    • A minimum of 3 year’s leadership experience in a Technical environment, of which one is from a customer-facing consultancy role working directly with senior leadership.
    • In-depth knowledge of current industry trends around technology and capabilities.
    • Broad knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies.
    • Previous leadership of and competence with people and consultancy.
    • Experience in managing initiatives from conception to successful implementation.
    • Experience in and commitment towards driving and implementing change and continuous improvement across complex environments / involving large groups of stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinker and implementer; experienced in successfully driving change into the department to support overall company strategy and direction.
    • Experience of introducing cultural change.
    • Knowledge of business functions and extensive understanding of business operations, strategies and objectives.
    • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
