Scrum Master

  • Our Fire team in Belfast currently develops software applications used to support and assist firefighters across the globe.  We are continuing to grow the team over the next twelve months and are now searching for a Scrum Master to join us. You will work closely with our development teams to ensure that our Agile framework is followed and will help make incremental improvements so we can achieve our goals.  You should have a passion for Agile and helping teams deliver.  Come and help us to better support those working day to day, on the front-line!
     
    Reporting to the Senior Technical Project Manager you will be part of our Fire Product team based in Belfast.
     
     
    What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day
    You will be working day-to-day as part of the program management team within the product engineering division. You’ll be responsible for;
    • Ensuring Scrum is understood, and the team uses Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines.
    • Facilitating and mediating agile ceremonies. This includes daily stand ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint review, and retrospective meetings.
    • Collaborating across teams.
    • Understanding the purpose of each meeting and providing the team some level of direction, as well as steering the meeting without interfering.
    • Enabling the right conversations to happen, keeping the teams focused on priorities, using techniques to help direct the conversation and keeping team members on track. Having difficult discussions when necessary. 
    • Holding the team accountable to their sprint commitments and enabling them to make progress towards achieving those commitments.
    • Facilitating working agreement creation, ensuring it is documented, helping the team check their behaviours, and reviewing with new team members.
    • Helping the team understands how JIRA is used and that it is the source of truth for project progression.
    • Capturing other documentation needs in Confluence (Scrum Meetings, project summary’s)
    • Helping with work intake. Evangelising best practice with regards to requirements analysis and breakdown.
    • Working with the Development Managers to discuss delays, roadblocks, or unexpected work coming in, and to Product and other stakeholders.
    • Blockers / Dependency resolution. Helping get things escalated and resolved so that the team can work more efficiently and strive towards improving inter-team dynamics. 

     

    Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role

    • A minimum of two years’ experience as a Scrum Master
    • Experience of helping a team understand the Scrum framework and the benefits of improved transparency, productivity, and quality
    • Experience of helping a team react to disruptions, getting resolution quickly or helping the team communicate the roadblocks effectively and working out what to do with the appropriate stakeholders
    • Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, documentation, and coaching skills

     

    Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following

    • A Scrum Master Certification (CSM or PSM preferred)
    • Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e., Scrum, Kanban)
    • Understanding of software development life cycle models.
    • Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques
    • Understanding of and the ability to explain the fundamental principles and founding ideas behind agile. Be able to explain to a team why they are becoming agile, and influence others
    • Experience of promoting Agile values and principles and good program/project management to peers outside of the team
    • Has experience working with product team to understand priorities and ensure the team's sprint goals agree with those priorities
    • In-depth understanding of traditional project management principles and practices.
