    Your role in the team

     

     

    Linux System Administrator position plays critical part in execution of Allstate’s EDDP (Enterprise Data Decision Platform) strategy. Data & Intelligence Systems team maintains several platforms in order to provide computational and storage services to Allstate’s Data Scientists.

    Linux System Administrator will be mainly responsible for providing a healthy computational platform where Domino Lab Platform is predominantly employed.

    This position requires individuals with demonstratable experience in developing scalable, distributed and highly available enterprise level applications. The candidate must have strong, first-hand technical expertise in a variety of configuration and computational environment management systems.

     

    Candidate should be able to work in an agile environment with little supervision.

     

     

    Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)

    • Maintain cluster computation platforms where applicable, On-premises physical, VM, Cloud.
    • Manage, monitor, assist to develop and configure Docker Images,
    • Utilize containerized application management systems such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, New Relic,
    • Action platform upgrades, updates, migrations,
    • Monitor overall resource usage, keep track of platform stability at cluster, node, server level,
    • Take necessary actions upon detection of service affecting failure,
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, business users, project managers and other engineers to achieve viable platform solutions.
    • Identify new technologies to continuously enhance the existing products.

     

     

     

    Hours of work

    • Standard hours Mon – Fri;
    • Flexibility to meet business needs as required;
    • Full time only.

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • 4+ years of experience in Linux or Unix system administration.
    • Linux Admin: Maintain/upgrade Linux packages, security, networking, performance tuning, system resource management, capacity planning, user process monitoring.
    • Linux Scripting: Fluent on Linux scripting e.g. Bash/Shell, Ruby, Perl, Python, or similar.
    • Kubernetes: K8S Application development lifecycle, software installation, maintenance, upgrade.
    • Docker: Docker image creation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, dealing with user requests and issues, image compatibility.
    • CICD tools: Jenkins, Artifactory, GitHub

     

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

     

    • Experience of Domino Data Lab or similar data model development environment platform
    • Knowledge of Spark Batch or Streaming, performance tuning.
    • Understanding BigData, Hadoop, Scality S3 storage management or any similar back-end data management platform.
    • Ability to code in Python: Monitor, assist, debug user python codes.
    • Managing software packages in R and/or Python
    • Awareness of Machine Learning principles,
    • Experience using software build technologies like Gradle, Maven.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
