    Your role in the team

     

     

     

    Allstate Canada’s IT Service Management & Operations team is recruiting a number of Software Developers to help support & develop enhancements within their legacy Policy Administration application.

     

     

    This is an exciting role for someone starting out on their development career, or for someone looking a change of their current position. This is a great opportunity to apply everything you have learned at College or University in the real world.

     

     

    Whilst this is a legacy system using RTM Language (which is a bit like COBOL and Basic), it’s a great opportunity to be mentored and guided as you mature your Software Application Development career.

     

     

    A full training schedule has been put together to teach the successful candidates on how to develop utilizing RTM. It will provide guidance on proper programming practices that is the foundational skillset for any successful developer; and will also educate on Allstate Canada’s insurance process, which itself is learnings that can be taken to any future endeavors within the Canadian Insurance Industry.

     

     

    The future is exciting!  Plans are already in place to remediate this application by end 2024, and with that comes opportunity for its replacement application to learn new and exciting technologies. Drawing on the business knowledge you have gained and relationships you have built, will put you in prime position to be at the helm of what’s next to come.

     

     

     

     

    • Following extensive training, the successful candidate will participate in a resource pool, working on demand in many different areas of the business, like Billing, Policy and Underwriting, Rating, System-Data Integration, Claim, and Document Generation. This will give you a holistic understanding of the insurance business of Allstate Canada.
    • Contribute to determining programming approach, tools and techniques that best meet the business requirements.
    • Following the Change and Release management process, participating in peer reviews, assisting with code checks, testing, and hand-on experience of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
    • Performing root cause analysis of production issues and systematic processes to rectify them.
    • Team bonding and building.

     

     

     

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

     

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
    • Minimum of 2 years software development experience, ideally in an Enterprise environment
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar field or equivalent related experience, including a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
    • Ability to work as part of a team
    • Passion and energy to perform at best and drive those around you to do the same.
    • Capable of seeing challenges as an opportunity to contribute, making an impact, and continuing to grow.

     

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

     

     

    • Exposure and knowledge of Agile framework (Scrum, Kanban, XP etc.)
    • Sunsetting experience
    • Ability and interest to learn and adapt quickly.
    • Ability to learn quickly and ramp up in a new subject area- to support our rapid changing business and technology environment.
    • Demonstrated strong team collaboration & ownership in prior work environment.
