    Your role in the team

     

    Data Discovery and Decision Science (D3) is the research, analytics, and data management organization at Allstate. We are solving some of today’s most complicated analytics problems, making the lives of our Allstate colleagues easier and more productive, and driving our mission to deliver critical protection solutions to our customers. Led by Allstate’s Chief Data Officer, the Data Strategy team is the foundation for data-driven decision making at Allstate. We are avid about exploring new ways to grow our organization’s capabilities that evolves with the data needs required to deliver solutions for our enterprise business priorities.

     

    D3’s Data Science team supporting Claims is a key business partner who works closely with leaders and end-users to develop solutions that will deliver the most advanced claim experience on the planet.  We leverage data, technology, analytic capabilities, and business relationships to develop solutions to drive outstanding quality, effortless customer service and operational excellence.  We are equally passionate about how our solutions benefit Allstate customers and claim professionals.  We find top talent from various quantitative disciplines to collaborate with business partners and software engineers in development teams to create innovative products using data science, artificial intelligence and industry insights.

     

    We are building a new Fraud SIU (Special Investigation Unit) function and are looking for a senior manager to scope out the engagement, partner with Claims SIU leaders to develop a strategy, determine the structure and mix of data science resources, build out the team for this function and manage the delivery of new solutions. This is a great opportunity with amazing exposure to senior leadership. In this role, you'll be able to design something new from the ground up, make significant business improvements, and drive business value. You'll work closely with Claims Fraud leadership and Claims senior leaders in this role.

     

    Strategic Leadership 

     

    • Oversees the design and delivery of complex technical projects
    • Works directly with business partners to develop, communicate and execute on projects
    • Continually monitors and anticipates resource needs and makes proactive recommendations and oversees day to day operations
    • Provides strategic direction and takes accountability for requirements, procedures and standards
    • Provides effective, real-time performance management feedback, coaching and mentoring
    • Prioritizes talent cultivation, retention and succession planning
    • Drives effective use of budget

     

    Problem Solving

     

    • Anticipates and resolves critical to complex operational issues
    • Engages appropriate parties in discussion to drive issue resolution and decision making
    • Leverages numbers / metrics / prior experiences to draw conclusions and drive business results

     

    Collaboration and Communication

     

    • Works across the organization to ensure coordination of the project portfolio with other initiatives
    • Develops and delivers communications for complex technical projects to non-technical audiences (appropriate audience, vehicle, level of detail, urgency)
    • Projects strong storytelling skills (verbal & written) and engaging leadership presence
    • Functions as a liaison between business unit and technology area and builds strong relationships; serves as thought leader on team communication needs

     

    Knowledge Management

     

    • Possesses advanced discipline and insurance knowledge, working knowledge of all teams (business, technology, etc.), applies it and teaches others
    • Articulates corporate goals & strategy, how it connects to individual teams / disciplines, applies it and teaches others
    • Effectively navigates across Allstate Personal Lines and Shared Services
    • Actively shares; purposeful and strategic conduit from business to team and stakeholders

     

    Project Management

     

    • Acts as liaison with business partners and technology for assigned projects and portfolios, identifying and driving resolution to issues impacting product or project quality, timely implementation of initiatives and/or quality of initiatives
    • Provides support to business partners as a resource on D3 projects
    • Manages the portfolio/inventory of all team projects with minimal support, to ensure projects are implemented on time, at or under budget and with quality
    • Represents team in project meetings to communicate results, issues, timelines, etc.; provides regular reporting for assigned projects.

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • Degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or the physical sciences and
    • 5 or more years of experience using statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to build models that have driven company decision making and
    • Minimum of 4 years management experience and
    • Fluency in parallel processing/programming, software/programming languages and technologies (Python, PySpark, Hadoop, Hadoop streaming, Hive, SQL, Oracle, R)

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Experience operating in an environment driven by KPIs where you had the accountability to determine the best course of action to meet your numbers.
    • Demonstrated success in directing and executing new data and analytical product development activities (including managing/partnering for what it takes beyond software development: operations, communications, business development, integration).
    • Ability to communicate complex and innovative concepts to stakeholders to drive decision making and buy-in
