    Your role in the team

     

    Data is central to Allstate’s transformation of the customer experience. We are looking for passionate engineers to help build the next generation of data analytics and software solutions within the big data technology stack. We need developers on our Shared Entity System of Record teams who will work collaboratively via Scaled Agile, and who love interacting with different areas to design and deliver the next generation applications which will ultimately transform how our customers view Allstate.

    The variety on the job will mean that no two days are the same.

     

    You will be actively developing Java Spring Boot applications on PCF. You will also need to develop a deep understanding of the Enterprise Data and Decisions Platform; how we get data and where it goes. We will also be looking for you to be an advocate of Agile practices on the team.

     

    Working closely with business clients, technology, architecture, and infrastructure you will be delivering cutting edge data solutions. You will have the opportunity to enhance your technical skills, pioneer new technologies within D&IS and will be part of a global team of like-minded people.

     

     

    • Utilize agile stories and designs to develop accurate, defect-free code Create and update technical documentations using high level technical specification documents 
    • Create Technical Agile stories to facilitate Refactor or reduce technical debt
    • Create unit test plans and conduct unit testing accordingly 
    • Participates in planning sessions, backlog refinement, estimation and works directly with the PO to understand business needs
    • Participates in daily product stand up meetings
    • Participates in sprint/release retrospectives
    • Works closely with test engineers to support testing of the solution
    • Ensures that code reviews are complete to meet quality standards; reviews and confirms that security standards are being maintained and evolving to meet the growing security risks
    • Establishes and maintains continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices

     

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • At least 4 years’ experience in software development and 
    • 2+ years’ experience with Java
    • Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools to iterate quickly on product changes, developing user stories and working through backlog.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

    • Spring experience
    • Pivotal-Cloud-Foundry experience
    • Understanding of streaming toolsets such as Kafka, spark streaming
    • Familiarity with source control solutions (e.g. git, GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory)
    • Hands-on experience developing and integrating with open source software platforms and languages
    • Experience developing large-scale distributed applications
    • Open to new ideas and technologies with a strong desire to learn
