Associate Product Designer

  • We’re looking for a human centred designer who loves to build simple tools that help make user’s lives easier. As a Product Designer you’ll be helping the ESO Product team create software products that improve community health and safety through the power of data. Our software is used by thousands of Fire departments, EMS teams and Hospital environments. You will help us solve our user’s needs by bringing feature ideas to life, through empathetic research, analysis, ideation, design and measurement.
     
    Reporting to the Lead Product Designer, you will be part of our Product Design team. 
     

    What You’ll Be Doing – the day to day

    • Creating lo and hi-fi flexible and accessible design assets, wireframes and prototypes with documentation that enables others to implement the designs you produce
    • Helping to drive our team forward by actively contributing to and maintaining our Figma design system, which contains our component library and accessibility documentation 
    • Working within our product design team to support and improve how we solve challenges, ease pain points and identify user needs 
    • Building strong, collaborative relationships with your colleagues to gain and share user insight, foster innovative thinking, ideate and prioritise as a team 
    • Through user research and usability testing, you will be understanding the people that use our products
    • Measuring the user experience and communicating informed opinions about areas of opportunity
    • Occasional travel to the US may be required 

     

    Who You Are - some of the essential things required to be successful in the role

    • One year’s experience in a similar role within software or digital design
    • Experience using Sketch or Figma (or similar tools)
     
    You should;
    • have a strong passion for product and UX design, with a continuous learning and growth mindset
    • care deeply about applying human centred design thinking which is inclusive to all
    • take ownership over your work, tasks and objectives – and work well independently 
    • enjoy communicating your ideas based on research in visual form during collaborative ideation sessions
    • understand the theory of most qualitative and quantitative ux research methods, their limitations and when to apply them
    • be evidence-driven in your decision making and understand the importance of applying success measures to your design solution
    • enjoy collaborating with our technical teams (on feasibility of your design solutions) researching with our users to ensure desirability, and working jointly with the rest of the business to create the most viable outcomes and solutions
     

    Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have any of the following

    Experience in;
    • responsive UI design for the web
    • collaborating on and interpreting user research
    • working with engineering teams to communicate your design intent
    • creating accessible interfaces that meet WCAG 2.0+
    • contributing to design systems
    • running usability tests
    • using online Collaboration tools (such as Miro, Mural, Whimsical or similar tools)
    • using User research tools (such as Airtable, Dovetail or similar)
    • using Usability tools (such as Optimal workshop, Usertesting.com or similar)
    • using Product management tools (such as ProductBoard or Aha! or similar)

     

    • An understanding of UX laws and Usability Heuristics for interface design
    • A systems thinking way of seeing the connections and interdependence of individuals, platforms and organisations within various environments, so that they can better design for an effective flow of user behaviour through an entire ecosystem.
    • An ability to estimate work, communicate closely when needed with project owners / managers / business analysts, deliver to deadlines, and be vocal early when risk arises
