    Your role in the team

     

     

    This is an opportunity to join the Data & Information System ADW Policy team as a senior ETL (Ab Initio) developer. This team provides a number of delivery services for Allstate including supporting the database Policy processes providing Business Intelligence solutions for all client areas in Allstate and providing consultancy for new projects, as well as delivering ETL Support and Ab Initio development for projects. You will get the chance to work with some of Northern Irelands most experienced Ab Initio developers, grow your knowledge and learn about additional toolsets such as Scality.

     

    The specific role that will be filled is multi-functional, requiring a blend of mainly project skills but also support experience is important. As mentioned above, the core ETL product used is Ab Initio, this runs on Linux with an Oracle Data Warehouse. As a Senior Technical lead / Developer you would be expected to take technical ownership of one or more of the team’s applications and be responsible for delivering changes, either as an individual or leading a small team of junior developers.  You would also design, build, deploy and maintain new applications. You will get the opportunity to work with our colleagues in the US and in India.

     

    As a Senior Technical Lead / Developer you would design, review and develop code for high complexity modules, participating in every stage of the software development life cycle. This position is for the support and enhancement of Ab Initio applications, including new code development and enhancements. It includes design, development of new applications, changes to existing applications, coding and testing those changes and supporting the quality control testing of the applications. It also includes incident/problem management and pro-actively identifying, addressing and monitoring any issues that occur in production environments.

     

    You would be a senior technical lead on the team heading up some of our key projects and leading a team of developers, working with Information Analysts, QC analysts, Architects, Scrum Masters and Product Owners.

     

    Applicants should be able to:

     

    • Evaluate technical designs and data mapping documents, in partnership with architects, analysts and developers, based on user requirements.
    • Design/develop unit test plans & perform end-end testing.
    • Create, update and understand technical documentation.
    • Participate in code reviews, and test plan reviews.
    • Champion product quality all the way through the life cycle of the code.
    • Provide input in creating detailed ETL development estimates.
    • Professionally deliver status updates to the management team as well as other project resources.
    • Must be able to follow and adhere to defined technical standards, as well as contributing to and creating new standards.
    • Collaborate across global time zones for product development.
    • Perform performance tuning on UNIX ETL and Oracle database environments.
    • Participate in Production Support as necessary.

     

     

     

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

     

     

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK'
    • 5+ years development experience with Ab Initio
    • Hands on experience with Oracle PL/SQL.
    • 2 years’ experience in UNIX

     

     

     

    We also have some desirable criteria

     

     

    • Data lake (Working on Scality with Spark/Scala) experience.
    • Big Data platforms such as (HDFS, Scality)
    • Core Java programming experience.
    • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodology
    • Demonstrable continuous learning
    • Acts as a technical expert for the developers.
